Question about Acer Aspire 1801WSCi Notebook

Open Question

Suspected BIOS problem ?Acer 1801 Acer 1801 WSMi"

I live in Belgium. I have a notebook “Acer 1801 WSMi_2.93 S/N: LXA390505353212688ED00”. I was updating the drivers by downloading the associated programs through acer online support, I am afraid I was mistaken in selection of the one needed for the BIOS, out of the two versions. After a while the computer shutdown automatically and I switched on it again and it came back with a distorted display i.e. different random broken colored bars. The “Boot” menu is not legible. Any guidance to have this problem rectified is very much appreciated. Regards, Halit Tugsuz

Thank you very much for your promt response. I do not beleave we can resolve this particular problem through this method unless you have a facility in Belgium. Best regard, Halit

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Acer Notebook 5610Z - Want XP Drivers

if your currently able to surf the internet with your vista os id suggest downloading the drivers for windows xp from the manufacturer onto a usb storage device like a thumb drive or external hard drive(hdd).
after you have all the drivers you'll need have:
the windows xp disk.
1)before you restart the computer insert the windows xp disk into the cd-rom

2)resart the computer

3)when the computer starts to post press the appropriate hotkey to enter the bios(usually f1,f2 or delete key) it'll tell you on the splash screen.

4)check the boot order in the bios making sure the cdrom is the first boot device. if it is press f10 to save and let the computer boot.

5)on the upper left of the screen you'll see (boot from cd)press any key(hit a key quickly)
windows xp will then start loading on the computer.

6)windows will look for previous installations of operating systems and display them on the screen

7)click on the partition w/the current os (when you click the os will be highlighted)

8)xp will give you the choice to install delete or format the current partition

9)choose to delete the partition

after you delete the partition windows will show a matrix of the hard drive without partitions (RAW SPACE)

10)highlight the raw space
11)choose create

SOURCE: Boot sequence / bios password issues with Acer Aspire 5100

for removing bios password you must have to remove cimos bettery for few mnuts but for doing this you have to open case of laptop
and it is not adviceable because your notebook is new one
so find any service station if yor laptop is in warranty period or you may lose your warranty
there isn't any other way to clear cmos without opening case of your laptop and remove cmos bettery
unless you will get cmos password but as u said you didn't put password in your laptop it might be possible that your notebook manufacture him self had put any password in cmose as a company policy
in that case also you must have to go to them

SOURCE: Boot sequence / bios password issues with Acer Aspire 5100

The finger print bull is how that password came up for me and they want a 125.00 to remove it. I called the better business bureau and filed a complaint. They shouldn't have any right to control your laptop. I to have a 6292 , took it apart as far as I could and could not find jumper or password. This is a gimmick to make money.

ACER Aspire 1804 LT won't boot

From what you describe it sounds like you have some kind of hardware problem possibly related to the hard-drive connection. Try starting it with the hard-drive removed it should at least show the bios screen. If it doesn't then you should start removing hardware(CD-ROM, RAM, etc) using a process of elimination. If you don't want to go though all that you could just sell it on eBay for part.

Acer Aspire 1800 not booting!

Did you make a backup of your original BIOS before flashing? If not you'll need to download the BIOS and reflash again. If you did then put your original BIOS back on the chip. This is definitely a BIOS problem. Worst case is you may have to purchase the BIOS from Acer or I've seen some 3rd party BIOS providers. I did not find the BIOS for the model you specified at the Acer site but I did find it at an English site: http://bios-repair.co.uk/ref/macercr.htm. It's L12 about $15.00? Good Luck
