I'm assuming you're formatting the card in the camera and not in the computer. Try this...remove the card and battery...press all the buttons....leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

My samsung S500 has suddenly stopped recognising the sd card

Try formatting the sd card IN the camera. Never format an SD card while it is in the computer.

Unlocking card makes no difference

The SD card in a camera? Make sure the card is unlocked, insert it, look in Settings for Format SD Card. Then the camera will recognise it.

Card not initilized? what does this mean?

It means the card has not been formatted, or that the camera doesn't recognise the format, but that might not be the full story. You don't say whether this is a new card or one you used before. I'm going to assume this is a new card (otherwise, it means the card has become corrupted or there is a camera fault).

The first thing to try is formatting the card. There is a function in the camera menus to do this. If it won't format or gives an error when you try, then the card may be incompatible. Formatting deletes anything already on the card.

Maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards.

If it is a new SD card, then maybe it is actually an SDHC card. "SD" cards larger than about 1GB are usually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible

Caplio R4 won't recognise 4GB SDHC card? - OK with my old 2GB SD card. Anyway to adjust it?

The R4 uses SD cards, not SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. They are upward compatible in that SD cards will work in SDHC devices, but not the other way around. Unfortunately, that's in the hardware and cannot be changed in firmware or with any simple adjustment. You'll have to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

My Coolpix 4200 does not recognise SD cards

Try re-formatting the card. It should be one of your camera menu options.

If that doesn't work, buy or borrow another card and try that. If a new card doesn't work you've a camera problem.

If its a camera problem, I'd try the Nikon web site, follow links to support and/or downloads to see if there's a firmware upgrade for the camera.

I have a Kodak EasyShare C633. I have inserted a new memory card & it keeps say "Memory card requires formatting". I pressed "continue" to start the format, but it keeps giving the same message. How do...

This camera requires either a sd or a mmc card, and must be put in with the front of the card (the card with the label on) to the front of the camera. If installed backwards or with the label facing the back, the camera internal parts can be damaged beyond repair.
Make sure you can read pictures on another sd or mmc card from another camera. If it can read, make sure you have the right kind of card. This camera came with a 16meg card, so make sure that it can read larger cards, most should, since this camera was made in about 2006. However some cameras may have problems with large cards such as over 2 GB. Just a thought, and try it.

SD Card (2GB YES Make) Gives Formatting error

If you have a card reader or a printer with an SD card slot in it, try formatting the card or deleting all files on it using a PC. My laptop has a slot built-in I'm able to use. Check out your options. Try formatting it outside of your camera. I've heard of some card swapping between brands of cameras doing crazy stuff as you are experiencing.

D900 mp3 problem

Just try formatting the SD card. Hope it works fine.

Just connect the micro SD with computer.(You need SD adapter, SD card reader, and USB connection) Most computer will recognise the SD card automatically. Format the micro SD in the Window Explorer(or My Computer). Format menu can be found if you click right-button with cursor on the drive letter. After formatting, re-insert micro SD into your D900.
Some Korean experts says the problem might be caused by different file system (e.g. FAT, FAT32, etc) in each memory card. So they recommended not to share your memory card with different mobile phones as well as any electric devices (eg. MP3 player and digital camera).

SD Card Recognition

Perform the following procedures when your digital camera does not detect the SD card. 1. Restart the camera Turn the main power OFF, or open the battery cover or SD card/battery cover to remove the battery. Make sure the SD card is fully installed. Then, turn the main power ON, or insert a battery again and close the battery cover or SD card/battery cover until it latches. 2. Initialize the SD card Format the SD card with your camera. Formatting procedures varies depending on the camera model. See the Camera User Guide supplied with your camera for the instruction to format the SD card. When formatting the SD card, slide its tab upward to cancel write protection. It is impossible to format the SD card while it is write protected. 3. Check if your camera detects other SD cards (If you own multiple SD cards.) If your camera does not detect the SD card after performing the procedures 1 and 2, check if the camera detects other SD cards. If it does detect other SD cards, the SD card that wasn't detected may contain some problem.
