I have a home lite gas blower 2 stroke engine that will not start. Are there reed valves in engine?

You can remove the spark plug, and put some penetrating oil in the cylinder. Some people use deisel fuel or marvel mystery oil. Then put the plug in hand tight and set so the plug points straight up. Since this is a two cycle instead of a four cycle you may have the fluids drain out. If they do drain out I do not think there is anything to do to save it. If the fluids stay, let sit vertical for a couple days and then remove the plug and try to pull the starter cord. Due to the design factors of two verses four cycle, the fluids do not drain out with fours like then can with twos. I hope this is helpful.

If you do get it freed up, you then will need to remove the muffler and inspect the side of the piston. The muffler side tends to have the most damage. If it is bad you will probably just have to replace it. If not damaged much, then you got lucky and should go get a lottery ticket.

Hi, David engine design is very easy to identify:
1. Two strokes red line around 12,000-16,000 RPM.
2. A reed valve is in between the carburetor and cylinder head.
3. The exhaust has an expansion chamber.
4. The muffler has a small diameter tail pipe.
5. The exhaust has a high pitched Bap Bap sound.
6. Small scooters and small dirt bikes are generally 2 Stroke.
7. Older models had adjustable throttle actuated oil injection.
8. Older models had a premix ratio of 2 stroke oil and gas.
1. Four strokes red line around 6,000-8,000 RPM.
2. Four strokes have camshafts and valves.
3. Mufflers have large diameter outlets.
4. The exhaust has low pitch deep rumble sound.
5. 350cc and larger engines are usually 4 strokes.
6. Four strokes have separate oil tanks that feed an oil pump.

Misfire on Tohatsu outbaord.

one would assume so but as you have not mention if it is a 2 stroke or 4 stroke , that assumption would possibly be wrong
2 strokes use reed valves between the carby and manifold and the crankcase and in outboards these reed valves can split and not function properly especially at higher prms
these reed valves allow fuel mixture in when the piston goes up and shut off when the piston comes down creating a pressure in the crankcase which pushes the mixture up the bypass of the cylinder into the combustion chamber
if these reed valves are not working properly or the crankshaft seal are failed this compression in the sump doesn't occur properly and engine running problems result
IF it is a 4 stroke the soaking the carby in cleaning fluid will only remove 1/2 the problems
It is best to have the carby fully overhauled by an accredited outboard mechanic as there will still be corrosion in the body and mixture passages that cleaning fluid alone will not remove.
have the ignition system checked as it may be an overheating component ( coil --ignition module) that is causing the failure.

Hi first thing what is the bike second thing is the engine a 2 stroke, if it is 2 stroke it most prob. has a reed valve, check that the carb needle valve is working as it should, then drain the cylinder and crank of fuel check the plug sparks, leave the carb off and put a small amount of petrol in it, try and start it if it fires once or twice, then it should start with the carb on it, if not there is a problem with the carb. good luck.

read valves are used by two stroke engines its a V shaped flaps
and is used to feed fuel into the cyclider
it takes the place of a puch rod valve in 2 strokes
and is located at the head end of the intake manifold just after the carborator

While running blower starts dying down in power going up and bown and cuts off

I wonder if it is starting to seize. Have you been using cheap ethanol gas. Or have you done research online for gas stations that sell real gas? If you don't use real gas on a 2 stroke engine it will over heat and eventually burn the valve and cause distortion all over. It will eventually seize.

A reed valve in a 2 stroke engine is basically a way to prevent the fuel/air mixture from being blown back into the carb. If yours keep failing, the most likely reason is that you have bought cheap reeds. There should also be a reed valve support on the carb side. this is to stop the valve from vibrating and bending the wrong way.

Ok i just bought a 02 yz250f ran great for a while then started fouling plugh now it wont run at all ive done everything i can think of spark plug oil gas oil filter air filter etc still nothin it started...

That's a 2 stroker, the problem with two stroke is usually air tightness.
There must be no air leaks from the engine block to the piston block. Check if there is a suspected air leak around the base of the piston block, engine block( carburetor inlet side ), and reed valve. You could see a leak if there is some 2T oil coming out from those areas.
Check also the reed valve that usually breaks down in two stroke engine, the flaps should seat tightly without any leaks.
Check all of that and tell me afterwards what happen.

How much oil do you use? in the mighty lite

Homelite Mighty Lite engines require the gas/oil ratio to be mixed at 50:1. That is 2.6 ounces of oil per gallon or 1.3 ounces of 2 stroke oil per half gallon of gas. I recommend using synthetic oil. It lubricates much better, allows the engine to run cooler and smokes less.

Gas blowback through the air filter

A certain amount of "spit back" is not abnormal in a 2 stroke engine without a reed valve (like the engine on your 155BT). If the engine runs well I wouldn't worry about it. However, this condition can be aggravated by an engine with a worn or stuck ring (other symptoms would behard to start and low power) or by running the engine at wide open throttle without load (pretty much impossible to do with a blower unless you block the outlet or have severe fan damage).
