Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

User Permissions on PS3

I have a collection of mpeg-4 movies on a PC that I am serving to the PS3 using Tversity, the PS3 then plays them on the PC.

All works great - however, I have a young child, and want to be able to stop them accessing some of the mpeg-4's

Any ideas?

Re: User Permissions on PS3

Maybe try to separate the ones you don't want him/her seeing into another folder and put a password lock on it.

Have an aussie ps3 trying 2 play dvd and it says region code incorrect how do i fix this

The PS3s' DVD and Blu-Ray player is region locked. This means that your Australian PS3 can only play DVD and Blu-Ray movies made for the region Australia is in or are region free (region code 0).

For DVD's, Australia is region code 4.
For Blu-Ray, Australia is region code B or region code 2.

Although this doesn't help your current problem, the PS3 is region free for PS3 games (you can play games from any region).

To work around this, I propose either ripping the DVD to your computer, then burning it onto a different DVD or streaming the DVD directly from your computer to the PS3. Streaming is definitely the better bet if you have more DVD's from another region.

To rip and burn your own copy, use a blank DVD disc and DVD burning/ripping software such as Nero.

To stream to your PS3, check out the following:
PS3 Media Server (my personal favorite) for PC
TVersity for PC
MediaLink for Mac

Enjoy your movie (hopefully)!

Xbox wont let me play movies from my pc 69-807B0191

Xbox 360 has limited codecs, if you want to utilize more file formats download the media pack on xbox live. but for your streaming pleasure try out TVersity or PS3 Media Server it also supports xbox. just install it on your PC then stream the videos to your xbox.

How can i get my xbox to support files such as divx and avi i'm using Tversity

It wont. In TVersity, you'll have to tell it to always convert. It will convert the stream real-time to MPEG.

How to put movies on ps3 harddrive?

Hi skillet3716,

Format a USB drive as FAT32 file system (NTFS will not work with PS3), create a folder called "VIDEO" (without "s), put the video in there.
name new folders "PICTURE" and "MUSIC" for those types of files as well.

The PS3 will also allow you to access a variety of media file formats from the video, music and photo menus of the Cross Media Bar.

# MPEG-1
# MPEG-2 (PS,TS)
# H.264/MEPG-4 AVC

# ATRAC (.oma .msa .aa3)
# AAC (.3gp .mp4)
# MP3 (.mp3)
# WAV (.wav)

I can´t play Windows Movie Films on my X-Box 360?!?! Can I Download a codec for this???I have some clips in Windows Media type on a CD. but my X-Box Can´t play that!!! Why???

Most likely there is not a codec available. If your Xbox is connected to the internet it will download the codecs if it can when you try to play the file. If not you can do what I did and download TVersity at This will stream movies from your computer to your laptop if they are on the same network, I use it to watch movies I have on my computer on my tv via my xbox. Anything your computer can play your xbox can play.

Xbox 360 console..

Windows media center is a little complicatd to use. The biggest problem with it is you have to have your movies rated. If you want a fast and simple way to connect the two is use a program called tversity.

It is free and extremely easy to use. Once you install it, you will need to show it which folders to share. Then go to your xbox dashboard and go to My xbox, the scroll right to video library. Once there you should see tversity on (your computer name)

Choose this option and you will then be able to play all your media on your xbox including all your songs and movies.

Leave the file on your PC and use TVersity to index and Transcode ALL your videos to your XBOX360 on the fly. No conversion needed. I have copied all my sons DVDs to my PC (he kept messing em up) now I store the originals as backups and play the movies from his xbox with TVersity
