Question about Miele S514 Solaris Electro Plus Vacuum

No suction Hello - any help with this would be much appreciated! I just changed the bag and filters. The machine runs, seems normal, but there is no suction. There is no blockage of the hose, as indicated by the fact that that little viewer window above where the hose connects to the unit is not showing the red portion that it shows when there is something blocking the hose (god, this is hard to describe!). If I disconnect the hose and put my hand over the hole, I feel some suction. But if I connect the hose, I feel very little suction, and there is no indication of hose blockage. what the heck is going on???

Well, it actually sounds like there is a blockage. Try removing your hose and dropping something through it, like a quqrter. If it comes through, no clog. If it is clogged, I believe that machine has a blower on the upper part of the cleaner (maybe in the bag compartment towards the top. You can take out the filter holder and plug the hose in there and run the unit . Does the blockage come out? If not, Try shaking the hose, or you can put a stiff wire in it to try to free it. Do not run water through it. If there is no blockage at all, then you will probably need to take it to a service center. But I am pretty confident that we are looking at a clog situation. Let me know if this fixesya! Thanks, Rene (vacuum Doctor)

My dyson dc 33 doesn't have any suction at the bottom. I washed the filters and checked the hoses. But I suspect it is because I can't get the hand wand to turn off. It runs whenever I turn on the

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC33. When the vacuum is switched on and standing upright, suction will always be diverted automatically to the wand and hose for above-floor cleaning. When you recline the machine into the normal vacuuming position, the suction should be transferred to the cleaner head. Make sure the brush control is set to 'Carpets', as the brush bar will not rotate when it's set to the 'Hard Floors' position.

If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, we'd appreciate the opportunity to talk you through some simple troubleshooting checks when you have your machine to hand. We'll be able to ensure everything is working correctly - and if a replacement part or repair is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). We'll look forward to speaking with you.

MOTOR RUNS WITH NO VACUUM PRESSURE

Sounds like the belt should be replaced. It maybe turning the brush, but if you smell burning rubber, its slipping and not turning the brush with as much force as it should. Changed the belt. Check the air suction path. If the suction is reduced, something is blocking it. Check the bag (if it has one) and all filters. If the machine picks up any liquid, it will reduce the air flow through the filters and bag. Change the bag and filters. If this is an upright, you may find caked on dirt under or in the area of the brush.

Loss of suction o=with hose tool

Hose or tool is probably clogged. Is this an upright? Bagged or bagless? Have you changed the bag and filters? Cleaned out the brush and hose that goes from the brush area to the collection bag/cup? The only reason for a vacuum cleaner to lose suction but still work is a clog or dirty filter which blocks the air flow. Follow the air flow from the brushes to the bag/dirt cup. If the machine is bagged, change the bag. I use another vacuum cleaner to do this. While your at it, might as well change the belt.

I have an older upright machine, which has been a great workhorse. It's not picking up suddenly, it seems like the dirt isn't getting sucked up into the bag. Motor sounds good and the brush is spinning.

It probably needs a thorough strip down and clean out as the suction is reduced. Check all pathways, hoses filters etc. and clean out any dust and blockages, also use a new bag after as the bag forms part of the filter.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply and remember, even if you don't vote for me a please and thank you goes a long way.

My 4 yr old Nilfisk vacuum cleaner has been working fine up until now. But suddenly, it has hardly any suction power and also, hot air seems to be coming out thru the vents on top and also thru the space...

Hi there SmartAlec from Nelsonvacuums.com.au here.It sounds like a blockage of some kind. The best way to find it is to set the machine up for normal vacuuming and remove one component at a time until the suction returns. eg turn on and feel suction under floor head - not good? then remove the rod, then the hose.
Once at the machine on its own it gets a little triky as i don't know which model you have. However if you have a bagged model remove all the filters and the bag and retest. There will be at least 2 filters, one before the motor and one after (maybe under the vacuum or right at the back). If it is a bagless model even though the filter may look clean it is probably blocked with very fine dust. If suction returns when the filter is removed then you need to buy a new filter. I am a nilfisk vacuum cleaner agent so i can supply a filter for you.
If this still doesnt help you are welcome to call me if you live in australia my contact details are on my website www.nelsonvacuums.com.au.
Hope this helps !.
Happy vacuuming :)

No suction

1, Does the blower (discharge) side blow bunches of air??
Yes: Something is clogged from the bag to the hose end. Try blowing out the hose from the discharge side.
Or: The bag is not properly seated. Make sure that the plastic piece is properly inserted into the bag, and properly aligned and locked in place with the suction intake.
No: Something is wrong in the motor/fan assembly.
2: The hose has a plastic cover on the end farthest from the unit. Make sure that this cover is closed. If it is open, your suction will go way down.

Shop Vac not working well

The only thing after the filter and bag is the motor. Do you have suction with the hose removed? If not then the hose is clogged. If you have some, then the motor is the problem.

Dirt devil mvp not sucking

Could be bad filters, is there suction at the end of the hose. That will tell you which direction to start looking. If no suction at hose end, then filters could be the problem. If you have suction, then the problem is down lower, dirt inlet is clogged, if belt has never been changed, then I am sure it has stretch to the point that under load it doesn't turn like it should. Could even be that although the motor is running, it may be running at a slower speed, in which case it would have to be replaced.
