I came across the same problem and even though you seem to be powering the cam from the usb lead and battery, you also need to plug the ac adapter into the camcorder otherwise it won't let you go any further, asuming i'ts not plugged in already, the question isn't that clear...

meanwhile my hdc sd1 is not even turning on, so think yourself lucky

How do I upload a video to my PC?

The message about the AC adaptor is precautionary. Uploading a video can take quite a while. It would be disastrous to have the battery run out of juice before the operation is finished because the file would be ruined and you'd have to do it over again.

When connected to ac adaptor it will turn on and toshiba leading innovation appear, but after that no program will displayed, but when i disconnected to the ac adaptor the programs runs normally. the

This is strange.
I think your ac adapter power cord is bad. Get another one from ebay at:

Just put in your computer's make and model, not the model of the battery in the ebay search.

For example: Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 AC Adapter

It might be your lcd screen's inverter, but it's strange. Anyway test the inverter by plugging in the ac adapter and when the screen goes blank try the steps below.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

Can hdc-tm20 connect a firewire cable?

From what I have heard this camera has no firewire, but it has USB download to PC and AV sockets, I hear that a new version soon will carry the firewire mode as I like many other camera user's do find that the firewire to PC connection is the best, but saying that if you record on the flash mem mostly you can plug that card into the latest PC's anyway, if you can do that then it will be very high def movies indeed.
I would not like to use a USB download cable as you will find picture suffers badly.

Cameras can't upload if low on power. Charge batteries or plug in the ac adaptor to an outlet and try again.

IMovie capture is poor quality.

hello referring to the SD1 from Panasonic, i recommend to deinterlace the captured clips with "JES Deinterlacer" before editing them with imovie. be careful to use "apple intermediate code" at the output of JES Deinterlacer. i clearly get better results this way, max recommendable size at 1280x720p when exporting QT files... kind regards, bruno
