Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop

3 Answers

I wanted to get rid of the password at boot and went to bios setup and changed the password there. It asked me to put in my old password which I did and then asked me to type new password. I didn't type anything leaving the field blank and saved changes. When the password screen popped up at boot, I hit the enter key, but the system told me "invalid password". I then tried entering the old password, but again I got the error message "invalid password". I can no longer enter the BIOS setup because it wantsa password. I'm lost and frantic!

That is exactly what I did, I set the password to nothing, but now when I get to the screen asking for a password, I hit enter and it says invalid password. After 3 tries I get locked out.

ok I have it torn apart down to the motherboard, but I don't recognize the battery? I thought it would be a ~.5 inch diameter silver button battery. Could some one please tell me what to look for?

I figured out where the CMOS battery is and have it unplugged. I am now waiting at least 20 min and will start putting it back together.

    Heather Daniels Nov 15, 2009

I left the battery out for 1 hour and then started reassembly. Now that it is back together, I push the power button and can here it power up like normal, but the screen never comes on, it stays solid black. The green power button is still on, but it acts like it is shut off. There is no noise or fan running. What could the problem be?

You can set the password so it is blank, then when it asks for password, all you have to do is hit enter and it will go straight to windows. If you encounter problems, you can go to user account info or use system restore.

I would try system restore to bring the computer back to an earlier time. Then you can make changes. Or boot the pc in safe mode to see if it helps any or allows you to change anything.

all you have to do is to take the CMOS battery out and leave the computer for 20 seconds and then put it back on

Some computers have a CMSO Battery but require a Flash out in the Flash memory using a Jumper setting.

Theres a jumber the is labelled CMOS Bat in the mother board.

    You can also try this:

You can take apart laptop (many videos on youtube that shows how to do this) Then just take the battery, pry it out, and after 20 minutes, snap back in.

sounds good. Let me know how it goes, and then we'll go from there.

Ok. Remove battery, press and hold power button for 5 seconds, Then wait couple minutes, put battery back in, turn pc on, and you should be good now.

Hi,
First I will need to know the exact make and model of the computer. Your one option will be to pull the cmos battery. That is assuming and hoping that you are able to do that. Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
lee

Black screen blue box saying

some one must have put in a boot password to your laptop,
follow this:
When booting up, enter your BIOS setup (usually by pressing the F2 key at the appropriate time).

Locate the BIOS Password section and turn the ON STARTUP password to off. There is no standard setup for BIOS, so I can't give you exact instructions.

If this does not work, try:
remove cell & start your pc you will here beep...beep...beep...

then turn off your pc & restore your cell.Start your pc and
password is removed.

there is a battery on motherboard,a button cell, you can try removing that and start computer, then put it back, bios settings will be lost.
you can also try removing any hardware like ram,if you have two, when system is off, turn on , it will prompt for changes , enter bios and try remove password.

When I turn on my Laptop the Dell Inspirer E1505 it says A Disk Read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Dell to restart then i restarted the computer i pressed F2 and the BIOS setting came up i went to...

It's asking you for a password to access the BIOS. You or someone entered a password to access the BOIS (setup screen). The original problem you're having is "Disk Read Error". If you have the CD's that came with your laptop, look for a Resource CD or any that has "Utilities and Diagnostics" under "Contents". This is a CD that you can boot from. Insert the CD and select <F12> on power on. Select boot from CD/DVD disk. If the laptop boots then your laptop is working but your hard disk drive or OS (Operating system software) is the problem.

Turn the computer off.
Hold down any key on the keyboard, and turn the computer on.
You might get a "keyboard error, press <something> to enter BIOS SETUP".

Also, instead of F2, try F1 or F10 or F11 or F12 or DEL.

Problems with hard disks are indicated by 17XX errors. The computer more or less suggests booting from alternative diskette drive.Unless you have old parts to substitute for the repairs, I would disconnect the hard drive and boot from diskette for the time being until you find the parts( being drive, controller and cable).Check your bios settings to boot without the hard drive after disconnecting it.

Add password

Hi there,

when the computer is starting up, you can enter the BIOS setup by pressing either:
esc, delete, F2 or F10.
or try to look good when it start up witch is the right one for your system.
In the setup, there is a security setup, and the first one down is the boot up password.
set it and remember F10 to accept the change.
