Replace motherboard

Hello, its most likely the power jack burned out which is cheaper than putting in a new motherboard by a long shot. I do those repairs all day long for about $90. Hope this helps.

915 motherboard does not switch on. computer does not switch on.

Test the PSU first with a known good one, if you are getting no power to the board, this is usually the problem
If you are getting any indicator lED on the board glowing, power is getting there but not being used. Check the switch by bypassing briefly, the actual switch with two wires and touch them together (fabricate a temp switch by two single pin connections)
If after replacing the PSU, the issue still occurs and you know the PSU to be good, the issue is with the motherboard, check for blown capacitors, burning on the circuit traces and any other signs of damage

Power circuit got blown off

Are we talking the transformer (the pack you plug the laptop into and then plug into AC wall socket)? Or we talking smoke was coming from the laptop?

The transformer can be replaced. Use your favorite search engine to search for the part number for that power supply. You can find many OEM replacements including directly from Dell.

If the laptop was smoking, that could spell trouble. Once the capacitors burn out, many other components on the motherboard and expansion cards can be fried.

Unless you are a serious DIY type, I'd ask a professional technician to open it up and examine the parts.

Used banana plugs for my amplifier, but bare ends of cable were too long, and then my amplifier short circuited. Silly. I would like to know if the IC is toasted or the power supply (or both). Is this...

If you were playing with the speaker out ----off sure the amp IC is blown or the related circute problem as occured
if you smell the shot circute ...tipically a silicon burn smell....then ...there is a problem in side....
remove the cover and physical check for the blown parts using a tourch if you fing any parts or the bord blackning.........
fault may be there\
some times with a small blown fuse replasement ...cure's it .........

We turn on our reciever and it says to check speaker and turns off automatically........is the reciever blown?

I doubt if the speakers are shot, you would have heard this happen.
These new amps are very savy and can detect a short on the outputs and in some cases an open circuit (no speakers connected).
Do u have a means of testing the speakers like another amp if so do this first the eliminate the speakers (disconnect the wire at the amp so u can check the speaker and cable).
Next disconnect the speakers one by one and turn the power on, if the same error code comes up the problem will be with the amp.
However that does not mean it's blown it may just be a fault with the short circuit detection circuits. If this is the case find a tech to fix the problem even if the outputs are shot it is still cheaper to fix than buy a new one.

The dryer works but no heat.

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.
