We have a Whirlpool Gas Range, model SF357PEKQ. When I start the bake feature, you can hear the gas flow, the ignitor click (about 4 times) yet there is no ignition of the gas (flame doesn't start)....

Whirlpool had some grounding issues with some of their electronic ignition ranges. Make sure your outlet is grounded first. Then you might need to make sure the bake burner itself is grounded very good against the range frame. I have put star washers between the burner and frame and tightened very tight, that sometimes helps. Also make sure the holes in the burner under the spark electrode are clear from debris. Sometimes the burning of gas leaves a residue that can stop up the holes and not let the gas flow out where the spark is hitting the burner. Hope that helps.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

The clicking can only be stopped after replacing the igniter, if it tests fine then it means that the spark module is bad and needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

first check to make sure all the burner tops are setting correctly on the burner base, if not it will make the flame uneven. the way the igniter works is once they feel the flames on them they will stop sparking. make sure the flames are not too low and they are touching the igniter. check them one at a time. if you have any questions message me back thanks

We have a 6 burner, nat gas cooktop....all unit light but the igniter clicking will not stop...unplugged it . question: all mechanics are closed is this safe gaswise?

What happens in this style ignition system is that the thermostat or electronic control switches power to the oven ignitor and gas valve circuit which are connected in series (one after the other). As power flows through the ignitor it heats and draws current (measured in amperage). Once the oven ignitor draws a specific amount of current the oven valve opens to allow gas to flow to the oven burner where the glowing hot ignitor (glow bar) ignites it. Power must continually flow through the ignitor and oven gas valve for gas to be released into the oven burner to create a flame. Once the set temperature is achieved the control stops all power to the ignition circuit which causes the ignitor to dim and the oven gas valve to close, stopping any burner flame. Cycling on and off continues to maintain the specific temperature the control is set for.

Gas burners are ticking

The ticking sound you hear is the electronic ignition which is located by each burner. When you turn a burner on the electronic ignition creates a spark which ignites the gas. Once the burner is ignited. turn the knob a bit further and the ticking will stop.

Electronic Igniter

If it is only happening with one burner, the switch on that valve needs to be replaced. If it does it with all the burners it is a problem with the spark module or control.
