Flotec 1/12 sprinker pump runs 5 sec. and trips breaker

Hi,
The pump is seized up... you can try to open it and get it spinning... make sure that there is nothing stuck in the impeller...
other then that the motor bearing are locked up and that will also cause the pump not to turn...

No power at all. Turn it on and not even a hum.

If motor makes no sound, and circuit has power, then motor has gone bad.
Motors slow down and overheat, or the winding goes bad.
Used to be you took motors to local shop that rewound the motor.
But all costs are energy and it's cheaper to throw motors in landfill and import new one from China.
Replace sump pump.
If pump is new, contact Flotec for warranty:

I replaced a one horse flotec sprinkler pump with a 1 1/2 horse pump. the one horse was wired at 115 volt/ 20 amp 12 gauge wire. the new pump is blowing the breaker.any suggestions ?

Your best solution would be to convert the circuit over to 230V assuming only the pump is on the breaker. Changing it to 230V will cut the amp draw in half and allow for the 12AWG wire to carry the load. You could increase the breaker rating but the wire is to small for the load and keeping it will lead to future problems if you leave the circuit as 115VAC.

I am not familiar with Flotec pumps, Is it easy to disengage pump from motor to see if it is the motor? you might also check for a bad circuit breaker by disconnecting load wires at the breaker. If you are not qualified call an electrician. he will help you pinpoint the problem further. be safe Do not take electricity and moving parts lightly

Hi,
The motor for your well pump is going bad and it is pulling too much current on the start up ...this is burning up the pressure switches and is tripping your breaker..
It may be cheaper to replace the whole pump then to just replace the motor...

Sump pump hums and then kicks breaker. Will not pump. I cleaned everything, still have problem

Pump motor is jammed causing overload and resulting breaker trip. Try to turn the pump shaft by hand, it should be very easy to turn. If there's any resistance check for blockage.

Flotec pump problem

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

No, only a thermal overload. If the unit was hot and has had a chance to cool off it should start. If you have voltage to the motor and it will not even hum or buzz, you need a new motor. The short must have blown the winding open.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

The pump was working fine , came home a few hours later the pump wont even turn on

1. Using a multi-tester, check the voltage supplying
power to your pump. If it is zero.
2. Check if the circuit breaker supplying power to your
pump. If it is at tripped position.
3. Just reset the circuit breaker and it's all systems go.
