HITACHI 51F59A PROJECTION COLOR TV

I have a 50" rear projection that is a year old. It will go to a black screen or a red, green or show a different image quality for about 30 seconds with sound uneffected. It sometimes shuts off then I turn it back on. The screen will shift to the left and back. Very rare, it will lose vertical hold. I shut it off and turn it back on. I love my TV but it is becoming annoying. Should I do? grelford@helac.com

have the same problem while I'm watching hd only, it doesn't do this when I watch reg tv or using any other hook up other than the hdmi cable..

51F59A red screen all the time

1. entire grill below front screen must come off (usually held in place by screws in back on either side.)

2. locate and remove inspection plate dead center behind it.

3. Locate small black plastic block with 6 black controls built in; three (look carefully) left to right are focus--DO NOT TOUCH THOSE.

The other three are Screens and will be marked with tiny letters r g b (red, green, blue) and green is always middle.

Locate the red screen (not FOCUS).

With set on adjust red down just slightly(usually less than 1/8 turn.

Since the set will be on TAKE CARE NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE SET WHEN YOU DO THIS.

Color shadowing on screen

I had similar symptoms about a year ago. Also came on sudden. The red convergence chip had burned out (poor heat sinking on this model Hitachi). Replacing the color convergence chips fixed it. ($50 for parts.) First, however, have you tried the "magic focus" function? That's explained in the manual, which is available online IIRC, but I'd have to look for the link if you need it.
