Re: hp screen problems
Pls check if the connections are proper and if the monitor is turned on.
Once you have checked the above thing, if the screen still doesnt come on, then the monitor has to be serviced or you may try connecting another cable from the monitor to the computer.

First of all, boot your system without the monitor connected to it and when you feel that it's booted upto logon screen (or if you haven't assign password it'll directly logon to the desktop, power on the speaker to make sure you can know it's done) connect the monitor. If this isn't successful, please turn off the system and remove the cmos battery, leave it outside for few minutes and again reinstall it. Boot again normally. Still having the same problem? then let's try another method.
Did you see the bios loading (black screen with white text during startup) when you power on the system? If so, press F8 several times while it is booting and select "Safe Mode" and restore your system to previous state. Do let me know if this isn't possible.
Thanks for using FixYa.
1. Check the hardrive cable connection (data and DC supply). 2. Under the BIOS setting, make sure that the hardrive is detected (set to enhance mode), this will detects either SATA or PATA., Exit and Save new setting 3. If still no detect, your hardrive might defect n need new one

Turn you laptop off. Connect an external monitor to your laptop. Turn the laptop on and see if you get any video signal on the external monitor (you have to use the right button combination e.g. Fn + one of the Function keys). If you get a signal the problem comes from the screen/backlight/inverter/cable. If there is no signal, check the memory (if you have 2 memory modules use only one at a time, the other one could be defective or check your memory with another laptop or use some known good memory etc.). If the memory is ok then most probably the motherboard is defective (at least the integrated video card). Expensive to fix or to replace it. Have it checked by a professional. Do you have any warranty on your laptop? See your dealer or HP representative first.
The problem is with the inverter board. It is pulling down the main power supply and cycling it on and off (crowbaring). If you disconnect the power supply cable to the board, the power supply will stay up and the power on lamp will cycle as normal. There seems to be a problem with one of the high voltage transformers on the board. I will let you know if I can find a suitable replacement of if there is a way to get an inverter board inexpensively. Good luck!
