Re: ge oven

Do you have 120 volt to the ignitor? Most likely you need a new ignitor.

Oven Problems Replacing the Igniter

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

Your model number was missing digits so I used this manual:
and if your unit is older this one:

Automatic Ignition

The oven burner is lighted by electric ignition. To light the burner, press the pad for the desired electrical function and press the INCREASE or DECREASE pad until the desired temperature is displayed. The burner should ignite within 60 seconds. After the oven reaches the selected temperature, the oven burner cycles off completely, then on with a full flame to keep the oven temperature controlled.

If you don't understand something or need more help, call:

GE Answer Center®

Both the new and OLD units use a glow bar for lighting the burner. Most likely your Glow Bar has failed: GE PN: WB2X9154

The Glow Bar is item 316 this link:

If you net search the WB ge part number you can save lots of money!!!!

If the glow bar is glowing and you still do not get ignition respond here and we can go through troubleshooting.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

GE XL44 Gas Stove and Oven. Everything works normal except the oven which stopped working suddenly (no flame). Couldn't find the manual to check troubleshooting guide.

The oven uses a silicone carbide ignitor which requires 3.6 amps or better to open the gas safety valve.
If you don't see any glow from it then it is either blown or the gas valve has gone bad. If it is glowing but not real bright it probably is weak.

Oven Problems
Replacing the Igniter

I used the self clean and now the oven won't heat. The broiler still works.

Hi, The most likely problem is the igniter was damaged during the clean cycle. Take the floor out of the oven and the flame spreader. set the oven for 350. If the igniter does not glow turn the power off and pull the igniter out and check it with an ohms meter. If as I suspect it reads open you should replace it. If the igniter glows it still may be bad. The igniter should glow bright yellow to the point where you can't look at it. If it glows and uneven yellow/orange it's bad and again you should replace it. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

Ge gas oven goes to f2 and beeps when we set the oven over 375f. 400f guaranteed to go off. We replace the glow coil last year and it stopped but its back. We use the oven at 375f for the top temp. We...

HI, You will need to check the oven sensor wires that link the actual sensor to the main control board. Make sure that the contacts are connected properly, and not loose, or corroded. If all the wiring checks out, test the sensor for the correct resistance readings.(you will need a multimeter for this test)

The most common oven sensor should be approximately, 1100 ohms when at room temperature. The others may be close to as follows:

100°F - 1143 ohms
200°F - 1350 ohms
300°F - 1553 ohms
350°F - 1654 ohms
400°F - 1753 ohms
500°F - 1949 ohms

If the sensor test is adequate, and the wiring is Ok at the control, this will lead to a failed control board. replace the control in this case.

F2- Failed Oven temp sensor, or control board.

Concerning the glow ignitior.

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven will not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve will not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

The lower oven ignighter does not glow

I had the same problem and swapped the oven igniter with the broiler igniter and the oven now works. This proved the oven igniter itself was the fault, now I have to replace the broiler igniter with a new one(which is much easier to get to).

FYI: An igniter may glow red and still not allow the oven to work. The igniter has to draw a certain amount of electrical current for the main gas valve to open.

Ge xl44 oven not igniting but burners ignite

The most common failure for a nobake on this type of oven is the bake ignitor. turn unit on and look at the bottom of the oven, you should after about 30-45 seconds see an ORANGE glow, if you do not, chances are you have a failed ignitor.Remove lower part of oven and if you have a meter, place one lead on each terminal and check for continuity( a closed circuit)
If you have an "open" circuit, the ignitor is bad

GE Oven does not light - no gas smell and no electronic ignition clicking sound

It probably needs an oven igniter. Remove oven racks. Remove oven floor. Usually 2 screws towards back. Remove flame spreader if it has one. You can see long tube with holes in sides and igniter with 2 wires from rear. Now try oven. See if igniter glows. If it does but doesn't light within 1 minute, replace igniter.
If it doesn't glow, you need to check for power to igniter. Should be about 100 volts. If not may need ERC, "Electronic Range Control".
