Fridge is whistling (by 2 users)

My fridge (danby), makes a whistling sound. It is high pitched and very annoying

The only thing that worries me is that even when the fan stops turning (when I open the freezer door), the whistling is still there. It lasts about 5 min. or so. If it is the fan motor, wouldn't the whistle stop when the fan stops? I am going to buy a fan motor and put it in, and hope for the best. thanks for your advice.

My side-by-side GE Hotpoint rerigeratorstarted making a whistling sound about a month ago. It is coming from the freezer, maybe the fan or the ice maker. It stopped dispensing water through the door about the same time. Now the ice maker is not making ice. Any ideas.

Mine was making a moaning, whistling noise coming from just above the ice maker. It happened when the fan speed changed. I learned on this site that the motherboard was probably defective.
Rather than go thru GE, we found a new one online for 66 bucks. I replaced it in about ten minutes and it's all fixed. Poor materials on the original, but this site was very helpful.

thanks for the interest in my problem. Yes, I can see the fan in the freezer. It's on the back wall of the freezer, and I can see the fan slow down & stop when I open the door. It is a home fridge.

Your question is a bit vague, but usually this sound is the evaporator fan motor, located inside the freezer compartment. If so, the fan motor is a relatively easy thing to replace.

Is this a commercial fridge? Do you have a door switch that shuts off the fan when the door is opened? You didn't give me any specs. so I don't know really what Im dealing with. I'v seen commercial freezers shut the evap. fans off when the door is opened, but not a domestic fridge. So unless you can see the fan, how do you know it has stopped after the door has opened?
Let me know.
