Hi George, sorry to hear/read this about your laptop.

One, you need to make sure your laptop's configuration matches the recommended environment under which Windows 7 OS was to be installed.

Check what system requirements for Windows 7 OS is and compare with your laptop.

Second, you may have to revert back to Win Xp for your laptop to re-stabilize.

Another option is to install Windows 7 Ultimate. This should operate fine on your laptop.

Post an update or feedback please.

My windows OS is not genuine. How can I change my operating system without using CD? or free download

Unfortunately if you don't have your CD key, there's no way you can make your Windows XP genuine, without purchasing a new one or installing a valid copy of windows. However, there are operating systems out there that are free to use. Linux is a great operation system capable of nearly anything. Depending on what you are using your PC for now it may be an easy and great switch. Pinguy OS is a variety of Linux designed to be easy to use for any user. All you need to do is download it and install it to a disk. Pop in the disk and restart your computer to install. If you prefer windows, now is a great time to get a genuine copy of Windows XP for a cheaper price now that Windows 7 is available, or you might even consider making the change to Windows 7. It's really a great OS! Hope this was helpful. Here is a link to Pinguy OS:

    Computer restarts on shutdown

If your computer constantly restarts while you are using it, or if you are trying to shut down the computer after it has stopped unexpectedly, click to clear the Automatically restart check box. If you clear this check box, you receive an error message when the computer stops responding. This error message may describe the cause of the problem. You can also review the system log in Event Viewer to view the critical stop error that occurs when the computer restarts.

    1. Click the Start button, right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
    2. Under System Failure, view the Automatically restart check box. If the Automatically restart check box is selected, Windows automatically restarts if the computer stops unexpectedly.
    Thanks & Regards

Windows XP stops at "shutting down"....

It seems to me that You need to uncheck the "delete paging file at shutdown". Deleting the paging file slows the shutdown of Your system considerably.
