Question about Craftsman Masonry Tools

1 Answer

I am working on a new craftsman Model# 351217220 planer that I bought at an auction. I had to replace a pulley and a belt. I get the thing back together and discover that the motor runs backward. I've had the motor apart and tried hooking things up differently but I can't make it turn the other way. Is there anything I can do to make this happen

yes I am positive the motor is running backwards. That's probably why it was at the auction in the first place. I have an identical model that I use all the time. The motor can't be flipped. Is it possible to reverse the direction of the motor?

Are you CERTAIN the motor runs backwards? You provided the model number, however, I am not able to locate a picture of the device aside from the motor. Can you flip the motor over (effectively reversing the direction of travel for the pulley?)

You added a couple new caveats previously unknown to me.

Reversing the motor must be a possibility but I don't know how to explain the process to you because I don't fully understand it myself. This is a tuff question for a electrician, that deals with motors, to explain without all the motor particulars.

Possibilities that I would explore and you probably have already:

    • Examine the motor on your existing machine to assure they are identical in every respect, electrically speaking.

    • Replace the motor with a new one from Sears. (if you got the auction device at a good price).

    • If nothing else, you will have a ready source or replacement parts for your existing machine.

I'm sorry, I cannot help you further on this question.

I need help changing the be belt on a Dewalt 734 planer.

Installing a New Belt
NOTE: No tools are necessary to install a belt. The use of a
screwdriver or other tool to pry or stretch a belt may cause
damage to the pulleys and ultimately destroy the new belt.
1. Remove the crank handle.
2. Remove the two hex screws from the top, right side of
the planer.
3. Remove the two, small cross head screws securing the
side panels to the top of the planer.
4. Lift the side panel up out of the slot in the base and
remove the panel from the machine. Notice the grooves
inside the belt.
5. Start the belt on the top pulley (P) with 3 grooves on the
pulley, as shown in Figure 22.
6. Guide the belt between the lower pulley and the height
adjustment screw (Q), as shown in Figure 23.
7. With three grooves engaged on the large pulley, rotate
the pulley clockwise. Keep pressure on the edge of the
belt to keep the grooves engaged on the small pulley.
8. Continue pressure on the side of the belt and rotate
the large pulley while hopping the belt further onto the
pulleys, as shown in Figure 24.
9. All of the belt grooves should be engaged in the final
position and the pulleys should rotate smoothly.
10. Reinstall the side cover and the screws. Do not
overtighten the self-tapping screws.

Replace the drive belt

Do you mean replacing the cutter head drive belt?

With power off start the ribbed belt on the motor pulley, insert allen wrench into cutter head shaft. slowly rotate cutter head while feeding belt onto cutter head pulley. While rotating head, alternate between pulleys feeding it on one rib at a time. Softening the belt in hot water is NOT necessary to install the belt in this fashion.

Professional woodworker planer 13" (china made) bought at auction,(distributor ?)

go on the web and try distributors for this / maker . Don't be surprised if someone bought it back as luggage and sold it at auction because of the lack of back up people where you are.

Need a belt routing diagram for a 15.5hp craftsman kohler command model #917259542

With the model number you have you can search for craftsman parts and go to sears and enter the model number and select the deck and find the replacement belt routing sticker for your deck. It goes on the top, left, front.

The belt comes from the motor pulley in between the pulleys in the middle and around the back of them, then out to the front side of blade pulleys, around the outside and straight across the back from blade pulley to blade pulley. Not a hard routing. If looking down on the deck from the seat it will look like an inverted T. Watch out for the belt keepers that help keep the belt aligned in the pulleys, may need to gently retract them to get belt in the pulley.

My deck belt on my 54 inch craftsman mower keeps slipping off - it is a brand new belt

have you solved your problem yet? was the belt bought from sears or somewhere else? do you have a diagram for the belt instillation? these are a few thing i would ask you. i belive your belt is a 196103 style belt the problem with this is that there several manufactures that call there belts a 196103 some ar 11/16 other are 5/8 wide and the range in length from 147-1/4 up to 148-1/4. next if you reverse the install order around the center spindle and tensioner it will have too much slack if these two things aren't your problem i would look for worn pulleys especially in the shaft of the bearings or a misaligned/bent pulley

Belt for Powermatic 15" Planer (Planer Model M-0460213)

Order the first one through Powermatic, then order any new replacements from the number on the belt. Or you can measure the pulley belt width and use a metal tape measure to find the total length by running the tape (number side in) over each pulley rim. Then order as a standard hardware source belt. Make sure the motor is bolted down about midway in it's mounting slots when measuring.

How do you replace the drive belt on a ryobi type be321

I tried the model number and can't find it on their site, but if this is a belt sander or planer you can "roll" the new belt in place without loosening anything. If this is another tool let me know and please give me all the information (tool type) and I will check further.

Belt drive replacement

First you have to remove the top cover over the belt. If it's still on, work it off the pully. Then you have to remove the blade, blade adapter and cover underneath. Put the new belt on the pulley underneath and push it out the slot to the pulley on top and put everthing back together. Hope that helps.
