In Auto Voice Recording mode, want to disable auto power shut off or extend time length - either with software or circuit diagram - rca rp 5120 voice recorder

    Thanks, a pretty clever solution, however, this will continue to turn up the volume every 2 minutes, eventually affecting recording quality (I believe - because I think volume control doubles as input sensitivity while recording - please correct me if I'm wrong here because if volume ,level DOESN'T affect recording quality, this solution will work).

    How about a way to have an audible click at fixed intervals, with some type of circuit, tapped into mic line? This would also be acceptable, if you could suggest the circuit or device to accomplish whichever solution.

Yes actually.volume control doubles as input sensitivity while recording mode.
install the software of rca rp 5120 voice recorder on the pc by its software cd.then in setup mode try to make the changes in the power shut off .disable the auto setting so manual shut off will get enabled.
The RP5120 has the software loaded on the recorder itself.

Connect the recorder to your PC. Once it is recognized open a copy of explorer if one does not open on it's own. Look for a folder named SETUP and run the software found inside.

I don't think it's feasible to interfere with the internal idle delay circuit because it's not a simple RC network, but a true software counter.

The thing can be tricked another way into believing it's not idle.

To check whether this will work, set the AVR mode and start recording. After two minutes, click the VOLUME + button briefly once. After two minutes more, do that again. Verify that this was enough to convince the device that it was not idle, and should not power off, and also that it did not interfere with recording quality.

If this does work, you can open the chassis to expose the front button contacts, and disconnect the external EAR connector from its line to connect it in parallel to the VOLUME + key. The device will continue to work normally.

Except that now you can insert a "stay-awake" gimmick on a 3.5mm jack in the EAR plug, with a simple intermittent timer to simulate a "click" every two minutes. Not much energy is required to do that.

There are several circuits that may do the trick, most based on the glorious NE555:

Depends on your exact model # - these instructions are for the 1100 series: rest is on p.14 of manual
1. To start voice recording, press M twice to
access the Home menu.
2. Press or to highlight “Voice
Recording". Then press to advance.
3. Press or to highlight “Record”.
Then press to access voice recording
mode.
4. Press when the display shows “Ready” to
start voice recording.
5. Press to pause record. Press again to
resume recording.
