If your computer doesn't have sound, the problem may be with the sound devices, which are programs that allow your computer to process audio output. Errors may occur if your sound devices need to be updated or if you reinstalled your operating systemmy sound won't work (resident on motherboard). - mag-glass_10x10.gif without backing up the sound devices. You can fix the problem once you know the default sound devices for your computer and which company manufactures them.

  1. 1 Open your Web browser and navigate to the Realtek website.
  2. Step 2 Click on "Downloads."
  3. Step 3 Realtek offers a list of three types of codecs, which are: High Definition Audio Codecs (Software); AC'97 Audio Codecs (Software); and RTL8100B(L)/RTL8100C(L)/RTL8101L/RTL8139C(L)
RTL8139C(L)+/RTL8139D(L)/RTL8100(L) and RTL8130/RTL8139B(L)(Software). Click on the type of codecs you want to install. For example, if your computer needs "High Definition Audio Codecs," then click on the that item on the list to be directed to those codecs.
  4. Step 4 If prompted, read the Realtek disclaimer and click on the box beside "I accept to the above" and then click on "Next."
  5. Step 5 Click on the name of your operating system. Windows and Unix (Linuxmag-glass_10x10.gif) are the only choices.
  6. Step 6 Find the sound device you need for your computer and click on "Go" in the row beside it to download the software.
  7. Step 7 Click on "Save" to save the file to a location in your computer or click on "Run" to download and install it simultaneously. This should finish your sound device installation.

No Audio Detected

Make sure that these are the drivers you installed. http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/download/download_driver_detail.php?pFILE_TYPE=Driver&pMAIN_TYPE=Motherboard&pTITLE_ON_SCREEN=AG8-V&pSOCKET_TYPE=LGA775

Also, make sure that your master volume didn't get lowered, or muted, in the process of your updates.

Before installing, make sure you completely uninstall what is already there.

Did you try another available IO/SLOT on the motherboard? If so, go to the realtek website and download latest driver for that model number. Install audio card then update the driver using the new version. I hope this helps.

Realtek AC'97 Driver Problems

Well,
This is the last piece of solution I can give you, in case you already knew it, please ignore.

Your motherboard has a 6-channel non-HD audio, consequently you might have probably downloaded drivers meant for 2 or 4 channel or HD ones.

The appropriate driver for your motherboard is
Realtek ALC650
you can download it here:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/REALTEK/ALC650-v349-02092003-Win-98-ME-2k-XP.shtml
Since it is just 6MB , I suggest you give it a try as a last option.
Hope it help !
