Hitachi 51F710 Lack of green in picture

posted by mcgoss on Jan 08, 2008

I have noticed that things that are supposed to be green are sort of a purple/grey color. The tint doesn't help. Green does work since when I adjust the volume, the volume level is represented by a green bar which looks good. I've tried different types of input, DVD, Satalite, Games and they all suffer from lack of green.

So you think the Green Projector has decreased its output and needs to be turned up? Since this is a rear projection TV there are separate projectors (CRT's) for Red, Green and Cyan.

I need more specific information for my projection TV. How do I adjust the color bias for this TV? It is not a standard TV but a 3 color rear projection. I need to adjust the green up slightly.

The lens are fine. Does anyone know how I get into the service menu on this model Hitachi?

I have found several posts across the internet that state you can adjust items like the grayscale as well as ISF adjustments from the Service Menu. I just can't find out how to bring it up. The Hitachi Certified Service people that I had out today said that there were NO adjustments at all and if I don't have enough green the only option that I have was to have them replace the green gun at a cost of $500.00. All I need to do is up the green gun a tad to fix it and that should be available from the Service Menu. Does anyone know how to get to this menu?

The crt is not broken, it does green just fine, just at little too low level. What I need to do is a gray scale adjustment. Back in the old days there was a switch on the back of TVs that would place them in "setup" mode. You would then adjust the bias setting for each gun in the crt, red, blue, green. The Object was to have them at their lowest levels and to be balanced so that the horizontal line on the screen was white in color. Apparently my Hitachi 51f710a has a "service menu" in it that allows me to balance the output of the 3 projection CRT's. In my set the green CRT needs to be just a touch brighter to get the colors right. See the Post by "madison square" for more information at http://www.highdefforum.com/archive/inde...

As it states in the Hitachi web site, this is general information. Hitachi Customer service (1-800-Hitachi) told me that I could only get help from an authorized service facility, which I tried earlier today. After paying for a service manual I found that to get into the service menu you press menu+menu+8+select. I can adjust the white balance from there. Something is still whacked out in the TV but at least I can now compensate by adjusting the white balance. You "experts" here at FixYa should make notes of this. Suggestions like "you need a special box" may be true for some specific manufactures but obviously not for this make/model. If you don't know the answer to a question don't "fake it". I did not receive any answers to my questions that were helpful. I'll bet non of you have tried to use that Hitachi "contact us" website for technical questions have you?
I have the same problem.

I would try using the remote, Menu, Colour/Screen etc.
to change things.

Or try calling your local repair guy and ask if he has a convergence/setup box like supertech was talking about.

Turn Red and Cyan down ?

Did you check the gun, if it is broken/damaged/dirty ?

If, there's no way to fix it, you can safely assume the cathode ray is broken.

You can contact hitachi here:
http://www.hitachi.com/GlobalSupport/ContactUs?form_type=global_support

Well, I'm sorry to say that's all I got, good luck.

Sorry to tell you this but Hitachi sell (to it's tech only) a convergence/setup box that plugs directly into the main board to adjust colors and setup convergence. Unless you can get ahold of this you are out of luck. Also each projector holds a liquid in them that has to occasionally be filled over years of use. You should probably call someone to handle this as any minor adjustments you make can really screw things up.

that is a color channel that is broken...

You need to increase the red or decrease the other colors. this is done with small preset controls on the neck board (or inside in the back of the CRT)

if that doesn't help. you might need to send it to a repairman before you get electrocuted (it doesn't matter if its unplugged or not, the crt stores lots of electricity)

it consist fo three colour projectors red, green, blue

  2. if it uses connector wires check its loose contact, break
  3. check the green projectors circuit dry solder make these problems, resolder these parts,
  4. some time the green amplifier section circuit componets failure, check these components
