Question about Xerox Phaser 8500/DN Printer

1 Answer

Last night I installed a new XEROX maintenance kit in my Phaser 8500(NOT "DN") and I had a problem I've never had in 3 or 4 years I"ve owned this printer. It was kind of hard to pull the old one out, and also it took some force to push the new one in. I looked in the space with a flashlight and fished out a few ink pebbles with a ruler, but don't see anything obvious that could have obstructed the kit from sliding in. I"m writing now b/c I'm wondering if something is wrong and I'm worried about having the same problem next time. Thanks, HENRY

Hi.

Standing at your description, you have installed the new kit in the proper way. Unless you broke some plastic part (you would have realized), it is rather unlikely that there is damage inside the printer.

If you find toner pebbles inside the printer , then the printer must be cleaned internally. That is probably causing all the troubles.

Residual toner can cause more faults, some of them (eg. drum thermistor) can only be fixed by a technician.

Here broad lines on how to clean a laser internally. Instructions are for a B&W, but steps are more or less same on a color printer.

Clean your laser printer safely with these tips

I have a Xerox 8500 DN and it is not recognizing the maintainence kit, have tried compatible and OEM Xerox kits but can not get to identify. on troubleshooting Test: 57 Drum Maint. Kit :Ck DM contact...

The maintenance kit needs to touch contacts to reset it.

There is a camshaft 020K14800 which may be cracked and therefore doesn't position these contacts. I suggest replacing this.

Need to print but the maintenance kit is late

No. That maintenance kit has a chip attached to it. That will reset the machine, It is just a white roll impregnated with silicon to clean and maintain the surface on the drum.
It will take replacement of the kit to reset the machine.

The printer makes a terrible noise during warming up

for a start: these machines are quite noisy at startup, so this may be normal. do you have problems printing? because if you don't, it's not worth trying to fix something that isn't broken. if the printer tells you the maintenance kit needs replacement, you can open the side panel, and feel a little lever at the bottom side of the maintenance kit (yellow-ish drawer). you need to push this lever upwards, while pulling out the maintenance kit.

Xerox 8500 - overprinting when double-sided

That normally is caused by a dirty maintenance kit. Often times they dry out and do not put enough lubricant on the drum, I would start with a new mainteanace lit., you may also have a bad wiper blade, although thats less likely.

No, it will not work because the chip (CRUM) is not compatable.

Maintenance Kit usage

Call 1-800-835-6100. Xerox knows there is a problem with those displays and will replace it free of charge. Thats a known problem they will resolve.
You should be able to open your browser, usually internet explorer and type in the printers IP address in the address box. That will show you all the printer information you need.

Maintenance kit for Xerox 8500

Contact the company that you purchased the maintenance kit from.
They should have the solution or send you a replacement.
I know of no way to change the Xerox printer to match up with a non Xerox maintenance kit. They would not set the machine up to accept non Xerox products since that voids warranties.
