Question about Pioneer DEH P3100UB Car CD/ MP3 Player

Purchased one of these at Best Buy for my wife's car; had BB install it, loved it, and purchased a second unit for my car. I installed that unit myself. At this point, both units are having issues with the display going blank. Also, I play music through mine via a USB connection; commonly when I try to change songs, the unit hangs briefly and says ''no device''. The only way to resolve either of these issues seems to be to remove the faceplate, re-attach it, and pray. Anyone else out there seeing these issues?

    Quick question: if I try to file a warranty claim, won't I have to uninstall the player and send it in? It seems like car stereo vendors have a good chance of avoiding warranty claims with ease. :)

    The answer I've received so far is common-sense stuff: I could have inferred this course of action (check your warranty) on my own.

    Do any of the experts out there know if this is a common issue with Pioneer systems, or with this system in particular? If so, has it been recalled/repaired in any of the newer systems?

    If I send for a replacement, is it going to have the same issues again in two months (because if it will, I'll go buy a different model and save myself from having to go through the "Remove/Install" loop twice).

    This is the type of information I'm hoping to receive from an expert.

    This CD player has a faceplate; USB connection on the front, faceplate connects to body of player via some type of plug in the back of the faceplate.

    In a nice way: there is no ribbon connection that runs from the USB to the battery. The USB connects to a faceplate, which connects to the player, which connects to a ****-ton of wires in the dash. I'm struggling to blame the wires in the dash, since we have two of the exact same player in two different vehicles, and both were installed by different people (best buy installed my wife's; I installed my own).

    Let me add one more symptom to try to help:
    - The music plays perfectly fine from my USB connected player (or a simple thumb drive)
    - As soon as I push the joystick to the right or left (to advance or move back a track), the unit freezes; sometimes the display goes blank, other times it just says "no device attached". Other times it actually changes the track (probably 1 in every 5 pushes).

    Anything? If you don't have any ideas, I would be fine with "we're just not sure, sorry".

Sounds like you have bad contacts between the faceplate and main connector. If you don`t have contact cleaner handy you can use rubbing alcohol and a q`tip to cleaned the contacts on both the faceplate and main chassis. For badly oxidized contact try to use an ink eraser Also you may want to check for loose mechanical lock or hinges on the radio itself where the faceplate attaches. Hope this help good luck

Seems that you may be having issues with the ribbon connection cable that goes from usb to battery to main board. They do tend to become loose and also can even get brittle. You may have to solder them in tightly.

Hi,

Make sure all the connections and wiring are tight. This might happen as a result of loose connection. Other than this, the other problem might be Defective Player. The software might be corrupted and unable to read or understand the signal when you plug in the USB.

Note - I am taking into consideration that the USB is fine. You could try to use a different USB drive to make sure USB is not a problem.

Unless , you always have an option of getting the player replaced, if under warranty.

    You need to uninstall the unit and send it to them. You would not Void the warranty as you are haven't tried to open the unit and repair it. If i talk about Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc., there all the well known Vendors, so i personally do not think, they might have an issue, if that's a genuine case like yours.

I believe I need a operation installation disk - I never got one - when I purchased this from Best Buy in Everett Wa.


Depending on when you purchased it - please call the store or take the unit back they do free checks on the pc - - if you don't have an operating disk they will tell you free where to get one.
