Question about Computers & Internet

I have an Acer Aspire 3680. My hard drive crashed and I had to replace it. I made a recovery disc when I first got my laptop. When I put the disc in it doesn't do anything. Is there a certain way that this must be done...also this disc will have my vista os on it correct? Any help is much appreciated...thanks so much!

Probably you have to run it ...or better boot from cd ...to do this you have to go to bios and rearrange the boot order such as to boot from cd first ...after that f10 to save changes and restart with the cd on ...it will prompt you to press any key to boot fromcd ...do it and follow instructions...
the other way is to restart and press F8 to select manually the boot priority ...select cd and enter to restart ...will also ask you to press any ket to boot from cd....if the disk it OK ..this will restore the system to that settings ...but ...keep in mind that will not format the C partition ...and if any viruses present it probably not go away ...to format the C partition you need to boot from a windows cd ..with partition magic in it ...or just run a xp installation to the point where you format the partition ..than reboot with the disk for recovery ...and it will be ok ...

SOURCE: I need a recovery disk

You can use a hard drive imaging program such as Norton Ghost to create a recovery DVD(s). Norton Ghost is available as part of System Works or as a stand alone program. Power Quest's Drive Image is also an alternative, however it is too old to be compatible with Vista - you could do a Drive Image outside of Windows - booting off the Floppy.

How do set my aspire 3680 back to factory setting

If you have a Recovery Partition on your computer then you will have to boot into the Recovery Partition to reformat your hard drive and reinstall your operating system. If you don't have a Recovery Partition then you will have to reinstall your operating system from a disc; if you have one. If you don't have the disc either, then you can get one from Acer. Otherwise you will have to go out and buy the version of Windows that you want from a store or from an online business. That will likely cost you at least $150, and then you will have to go thru the hassle of finding the drivers for all the devices on you laptop. So.......If you don't have a recovery partition or the factory recovery discs, then you should try getting a recovery disc from Acer. If you don't want to wait that long and you don't want to spend over $100 on getting it done, then you should see if a local computer repair shop will do it for you.

Sounds like a virus. Remove the drive from the laptop and connect it to another computer using a USB cable. These cables can be purchased for around $20 from tigerdirect.com or compusa.com. After it is connected, scan the drive for viruses using your desktop antivirus program. If you do not have an antivirus program, I recommend that you download Microsoft Security Essentials for free from Microsoft's download site. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Insert the recovery CD into your computer.
Restart your computer, and choose "boot from CD".
Yes, the CD should include everything to reset your computer back to the "factory" settings.

Acer Aspire 3680 startup, blue screen & cursor only

  • prior to the recovery... have someone pull your hard drive and recover the "precious" files & pics on the drive... It's expensive at Best Buy... so watch out!!!
  • System recovery shouldn't have you loose all files.. if a recovery point is there... the trick is to only recover to the most recent point that you can. When Windows updates the software to Service Pack X for example, a recovery point would have been created automatically

Acer Aspire 3680 start up

This is generally caused by a hard drive failure. You can try to repair or reinstall the operating system with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any issues or problems during or after the repair/reload then the hard rive has failed and will need to be replaced.

Acer Aspire 3680 Complete Restore

http://www.acerpanam.com/us Go to that website and click on "eRecovery Disc Purchase". Acer does not come with recovery discs. It only comes with a recovery partition from which you can make recovery discs. If they discs were not made you'll find the provided website useful. If you're trying to recover from your recovery partition, then continuously hit the F11 key at startup. This F11 option is not always displayed. If this doesn't work then your hard drive is corrupt or damaged and you will need the discs (and potentially a new hard drive).
