SOURCE: kenmore series 80 gas dryer will not heat up

Hi. this dryer has a set of coils that sit on top of the actual gas valve assembly. these coils activate the main and secondary gas valves and if the coil assembly is malfunctioning or, the wires and clips are corroded, the coils will not activate the gas valves to open and close. this malfunction will affect the heating process within this dryer unit.

I recommend inspecting the dryer coil assembly. use a mulitimeter to test for Resistance. you should get a reading of some type of current flow through the wires and, if this is the case, the coils are bad and they will need to be replaced.

This test is actually not needed. the non existing heat is a red flag on its own and, it greatly confirms a major failure within the coil assembly. replacing the coils will fix your dryer.

PLease rate and god bless:)

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series gas dryer starts with heat but very short time

Hello Friend, Your problem is very simple to fix. You're dryer needs a gas valve coil kit. To replace coils just remove front of dryer body and look below drum you will see the gas valve. The valve coils are located on top of valve (two little round black cylinders). It's simple, just remove the two screws from the little metal bracket that holds them down, unplug the wires from them and just lift them straight up off of the valve. Take notice that one has 3 wires and one has 2 wires. Just replace with new coils and plug wires back in and re-fasten metal bracket. Your dryer will run like new. Happy to help, Tim.

This could be the heating element or several other parts more likely the thermal fuse. There is a video on troubleshooting a similar model at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru troubleshooting your problem.

Srart by pulling each thermostat wires and tape them together until you find the bad one. You should have 3 of them to test.

Kenmore 80 series gas dryer has not heat

most of these dryers have a little plastic plug on the front, left side. pop that plug out and look inside after turning it on. you should see a red glow. if not, then your ignitor has broken. if you see a glow, then the problem is probably one of the two little coils on the gas valve. these coils will sense if there is something to light the gas [the red glow] and open the valve - if the coils are bad, they won't open the valve

Dryer will not heat up

if the ignitor doesn't glow it could be broke it is vary fragile, and made of carbon, you might want to have a tech come out, if you can see it with a flash light it has 1 screw that holds it in place if you can get it out unplug it, take it to R.E.Michaels a supply house over the us if not look for an appliance co, that has parts and you have to get the one with the same plug and hold down. you can instal it your self but remember do not touch the carbon part, it is sensitive to the oils in your skin only handle with the hold down,, if you touch the caron as soon as it lights up it will break, no doubts in that----good luck

Kenmore 80 series Heating Problem

Most of these issues will need an ohm meter, unless you want to just take a guess.
For Gas dryers.
1. See if the ignitor glows, if not, check the thermal fuse. (if the lint screen is on top, the fuse is accessed behind the back panel, it's small and white, next to the bulkier thermostat. If the lint screen is in the front panel, the thermal fuse is mounted on top of the blower wheel housing, accessed behind the bottom-front or "kick" panel. The fuse should read 0 to .2 ohms at the most, technically is should be zero. If that checks ok, check the ignitor itself, which has a wire harness that connects about 6" from the ignitor. Should be around 50 ohms... a faulty ignitor would read infinite ohms (open).
2. If the ignitor does glow, and you hear a click, but there is no flame, replace the valve coils, (two small cylindrical objects mounted on the valve) Part # 279834. This is assuming your gas is ON.

If Electric, it would not be the fuse, as on electric dryers it is also in the motor circuit, and the dryer would not run at all. Check the heating element, should be around 9-11 ohms. If good, check all thermostats (operating, hi-limit, thermal cutoff). Infinite ohms is bad. Hopefully it's not more complicated than this, or it can get weird..... Hope this helps.

No heat

If your dryer has an access panel at the bottom front remove it.  Start the dryer in a cycle and watch the burner area. You should see the ignitor start to glow. After a few seconds of it glowing you should hear a click and the gas come on and ignite. If the ignitor does not glow, look on the top of the air duct to the left of the gas valve. You will see 2 temp sensors. One will be white with  2 small blue wires going to it.    UNPLUG THE DRYER NOW    Remove the wires and connect them together.   BE SURE THEY DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE

Plug dryer back in and start dryer again and see if ignitor glows and burner lights. If it works now, you need a new thermal fuse. You also want to make sure the vent duct is not clogged with lint or the hose is not kinked.  I DO NOT recommend that you run the dryer with this bypassed. It is a safety mechanism.

If this is not the problem or your dryer is not front servicable, post back and i will try to walk you through the problem.
