It is "dead" -- unless you send the unit to an expensive "Data Recovery Service", all your files are gone.

My simpletech hard drive hitachi 750gb doesn't work and make noises

Clicking Hard drive When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death".
There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

My external hard drive is making a sound like a loud clock. It would not allow itself to be read. What can be the problem?

Clicking sound means the platters inside of the hard drive are bad. They are touching each other which is bad. Only option is to replace the external hard drive.

Drive only makes a clicking sound, computer does not see drive.

A hard drive that makes a clicking noise is definitely faulty. If you want to retrieve data from this hard drive there are companies that can pull apart the drive to recover the data. This is specialized work and it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.
You can buy a new hard drive and install it in the case to have a working USB hard drive again.

Western Digital 120GB Hard drive clicking and not reading

Clicking noises are not good. Sometimes the head is stuck and sometimes there is damage.

First try the drive with another computer just to be sure its not working.

If you can, the next thing to do is remove the drive from the case and attach the drive directly to another computer just in case its the case's electronics.

If it still clicks, gently whack the drive (out of the case again) on one of the sides to see if it frees up the stuck part. I find this works about half the time.

If nothing works, the drive may be toast and data recovery becomes a job for a data recovery specialist at some expense. expense.
