Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check that there are no loose wires at the door latch or the control panel. Also check the wiring harness. If still the issue persists, then you’ll need to replace the door latch assembly. Usually it's not the spring but instead the "latch head", which has a little loop on the backside to hold the spring. The loop breaks off.

The latch head is the long plastic piece with two protruding hooks which activate the hidden door switches.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Hi, My Bosch built in microwave won't start when I close the door unless I slam it. I suspect the switch. Think so? Can I get at ithe switch to replace without removing the whole unit from the

You will need to remove microwave to access casing, remove casing and check door micro-switch. The switch activator will need adjusting to enable door interlock to activate.

Microwave won't start

I have the same problem. Is the light still on inside the microwave? Mine is on and the microwave thinks the door is not shut. I took the top off of the microwave and the latch needs to push down on a switch once shut. The latch was reaching the switch, but I think some spring in the door, pushing the latches down, has broken since it reaches the switch when closed but there isn't any downward force to flip the switch.
I am trying to figure out how to repair the latch but if your light is on when you "shut" the door, you may have the same problem.

Why does the light / safety switch stay on when the door latches shut ?

Most likely there is a part missing from the door latch mechanism that you need. This probably broke off when the handle failed. It would be a tab or wedge shaped piece of plastic that strikes the door switch and pushes the switch closed when the door is completely shut. You will need to find that piece and glue it back on or get a new handle assembly from Samsung.

My microwave wont turn on. the power works, clock, timer and all electrical is working, it just wont turn on.

Most likely you have an interlock microswitch problem or a latch problem. as you just open or just close the door VERY slowly listen for 3 distinct clicks one for each of the 3 interlocks. Two you will hear as you press the door open button and the last one you will hear as the door just opens or closes. If you do NOT have 3 clicks you have a bad micro-switch.
The micro-switches you can purchase on line here:

Owners manual: (Provided only for telphone contacts in first 2 pages.)

I think you just have a simple micro-switch problem. However... if the latch assembly that holds the switch is cracked or broken it will have to be replaced. I have seen the plastic latch assembly fail causing the switch not to work properly.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Inner Bootom Door Hinge Broke off...since then it will not turn on...Will that prevent microwave from functioning?

You probably mean the door LATCH broke off. Yes, that will prevent your oven from operating. The door latches operate switches inside to indicate that the door is closed. If the control board doesn't see the right switch settings, it thinks the door is open and won't allow cooking. Replacement latches are available, but you should check with a professional shop to do the repair. If door repairs aren't done correctly, there is a chance of microwave leakage and an unsafe oven.

How to open the door of 773 model for replacing the damaged latch.? Hook like thing of the latch at the upper part is damaged and i have to replace it witha new latch. But I am not open the door.

To open the door, remove the appliance case and with a long small diameter screwdriver, gently lift the catch holder assembly up to release the door catches.
When you replace the door catch, ensure that the door fits correctly.

I have a problem with my Sharp Carousel R 1480. The door will not latch and the light will not go out. The hooks on the actual door seem to be in place and working like normal so Im assuming it is...

We have the full service manual at our site here.

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

In some cases, you problem may be a damaged latch head, which is an odd name for what I would call a door switch holder.

Our file on door switches is here.

In order to have the correct operation of the door latch mechanism and latch switches.
  1. Ensure correct adjustment of the Door and the Latch switches.
  2. Wipe off any dirt or grease around the door key where it touches the latch switched and door hooks with a soft cloth. Maintaining the smooth movement of the latch mechanism and switches etc
  3. After replacement of the latch mechanism and/or Latch switches. Make sure to confirm a smooth operation of these parts are in order.

Door latch and Screen

This is because of the broken latch. There are switches inside the oven that are operated by the door latches to make sure you're not trying to use the oven with the door open. With the new door, your oven should be back to normal.

The closed door doesn't always hit the limit switches

I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to adjust the hinges.

The door switch mounts are either cracked or need to be adjusted.

Door switch mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door.

This may be a little more info that you need and it's from a Sharp service manual, but the general principles apply:

1. Disconnect the power supply cord, and then remove outer case.

2. Open the door and block it open.

3. Discharge high voltage capacitor.

If the door sensing switch, secondary interlock switch and monitor switch do not operate properly due to a misadjustment, the following adjustment should be made.

4. Loosen the two (2) screws holding latch hook to the oven cavity front flange.

5. With door closed, adjust latch hook by moving it back and forth, and up and down. In and out play of the door allowed by the upper and lower position of the latch hook should be less than 0.5mm. The vertical position of the latch hook should be adjusted so that the door sensing switch
and secondary interlock switch are activated with the door closed. The horizontal position of the latch hook should be adjusted so that the plunger of the monitor switch is pressed with the door closed.

6. Secure the screws with washers firmly.

7. Check the operation of all switches. If each switch has not activated with the door closed, loosen screw and adjust the latch hook position.

After adjustment, check the following.

1. In and out play of door remains less than 0.5mm when in the latched position. First check upper position of latch hook, pushing and pulling upper portion of door toward the oven face. Then check lower portion of the latch Figure C-3. Latch Switch Adjustments hook, pushing and pulling upper portion of door toward the oven face. Both results (play in the door) should be less than 0.5mm.

2. The door sensing switch and secondary interlock switch interrupt the circuit before the door can be opened.

3. Monitor switch contacts close when door is opened.

4. Re-install outer case and check for microwave leakage around door with an approved microwave survey meter.
