Are you pressing the shutter button half-way to allow the camera to lock in the focus before pressing the rest of the way?

It doesn't allow me to take a shot. On a lense itself, there are two settings A and M. When it it is on M it takes a blurry shot, but on A setting doesn't allow. Please, help me.

M means Manual Focus. If you set the lens to this then you need to turn the lens manually to get it into focus.
A means Auto Focus and when the lens is det to this it should focus automatically but you need to set the mode button OFF Manual. It should work on any other setting.

Camera has pixal bleed when reviewing pictures taken sometimes and will not take picture in automatic mode.

Did the camera get hot, this may cause LCD to bleed. Check menu settings and make sure the camera is not set to "Manual Focus".

My 55-200 automatic lens will not auto focus on the lower focal lengths, but will on the longer ones. It hasn't been dropped or mishandled and the standard lens works fine. Nikon D40

From the sounds of things it sounds like a part is worn in the lense, my advise is to contact Nikon and send away to be repaired, they have a great service department. I have used them and they are quite inexpensive to.

Ive got the nikon d40. when i take photos close up they are blurred. there r 2 settings on the focus lense one is letter a one letter m. you have to move switch to indicate one or other. camara wont take...

The letters you're referencing is the M/A (manual / auto) focus switch. The lens has this switch and operates in Auto Focus mode when set to "A" and manual focus mode when set to "M".

You have to manually focus on the subject when in letter "M". If you do not, the result will be out of focus. From your description, it sounds like the camera / lens combination is attempting to focus and operate the shutter in auto, and focusing in manual; but due to some type of damage resulting from possible mishandling, exposure to dust, dirt or even moisture is interfering with the successful completion of the process.

You could isolate the problem to determine if the cause is in the lens or camera by simply attaching the lens to another compatible Nikon camera or placing a different auto-focus lens on your D40. The problem will either stay with your D40 or follow the lens when attached to a different camera. It is also *possible* that due to numerous attempts of auto-focusing with your D40 & lens combination, that both the lens *and* the camera have been damaged. If the problem is severe enough, the problem in the failed device could cause failure in the otherwise normally working device, too.

You might be best served by contacting Nikon Service & Support below:

You also said you lost your manual. You can download the manual for the D40 directly from Nikon in your choice of English, French or Spanish from the link below:

Good luck!

My 18-55mm lense will no longer auto focus. Possible sand issue? How can I get it cleaned/repaired???

The D40 has a AF / MF switch next to the lens.. It may have been moved to the MF (Manual Focus) position or in-between the two settings.
Move the switch back and forth to both settings a couple of times and then set it to AF (Automatic Focus).

Not sure if you have other lenses, but this is the solution if you only have this lens or it's the only one you cheched.

Hope this helps!

I have a Nikon D40, which I recently dropped. :( Camera seemed okay, but then I noticed later that the 18-55 lens was being less than cooperative. It now is stuck on 55 adn will not zoom out. It still...

It sound like the lens zoom has broken.
If other lens is ok and this lens still focuses automatically the conection is working.

Sorry to bring the bad news but it may cost less to get a new lens than to get it fixed.

Someone else might have an idea how to fix the zoom, good luck.

My Nikon D40 will not focus when I have it on automatic.

First I would try removing the lens from the camera. Then re attach it and see what happens. Next I would manually focus the lens from one extreme to the other, see if you feel any resistance or binding in the focus. If all else fails call the lens manufacturer.

Nikon D40 help?!

I assume the lens had the impact. The 18-55 lens has the built-in motors for auto-focus.
Try switching to manual focus (on the lens). If this works, the lens may not auto-focus anymore.
Try it and let me know.
cheers,
