Question about LG Washing Machines

1 Answer

Started washing 2 pairs of sneakers in the machine and then after awhile it just starts making a broken gear sound and the drum doesnt spin. it seems to start at first then it starts making noise and does not spin. I have to drain the water to get it to open and it will never finish the cycle. it stays on the time left no matter how long I wait. Wondering if has anything to do with the shoes or just a coincidence.

If you can hear the motor going but the drum is not spinning then there is a possibility that the belt has snapped or has come off the fly wheel.

There is also the possibility that the sneakers have caused this.

Did you take the laces out of the sneakers?

From the sound that you are describing i am in no doubt that the bearings have gone.

If its the front bearings then you will notice that the drum will have dropped a little at the front.

If its the back bearings then you will hear crunching noises. Either way the balancing of the drum is interrupted so the cycle will stop.
Some washing machines will complete a wash cycle but won't spin off because of the balancing sensor.

I recommend that you have an engineer take a look at the machine.

The bearings are not that expensive to replace but you need a special wrench to unscrew the bolt from the fly wheel, this why you may need an engineer to replace them for you.

The crunching sounds you are hearing are the smashed bearings grinding against the bearing ring.

I think you are going to have to call an engineer.

It's highly unlikely that you are going to be able to fix the problem yourself unless you had the correct wrench for the job.

Not only that some machines have to be completely disassembled so the drum itself can be extracted from the top of the machine to get to the fly wheel and the holding bolt.

I don't recommend that you try fixing the problem yourself as you may void the warranty costing you a small fortune.

I suggest you wait for the engineer to come and repair the problem for you. That way if there are any underlying problems that have not surfaced yet the engineer will be able to repair that/them too.

Final high speed spin very noisey

Something is causing the drum to be way out of balance. Does it bang and make noise when it's spinning empty? Probably not. Is something stuck on the side (inside of course) of the drum, causing it to shake when spinning? If not, a spring or shock absorber (connecting drum to sides, bottom or top of machine) has broken or come loose.

Frigidaire front load washer model GLTF1240ASO makes a loud noise durring spin cycle

Most likely the drum bearings are gone, especially if you have some play. You need a bearing and seal kit which is fairly inexpensive but it is a pretty big job. The entire inner drum must come out so it requires the disassembly of quite a bit of the machine.

My washer will start but it will just make a winding sound

Sounds like the motor to drum belt or gear is broken. The motion generated by the motor is not getting to the drum because the belt is slipping or broken, or the gears are stripped causing the winding sound.

Sounds like a loose screw/bolt/nut during the spin cycle

There is nothing wrong with your machine. Don'f bother with the sound , You said you threw 2 pair of jeans, so its bottons are causing the sound against the drum during cycle. Finished your laundry and worry no more. To make sure, throw some another clothing asides form jeans, like shirts, and feel the normal silent of your machine.

Good Luck,
