Re: how to remove crt tube

I would not advise you to do any service to your tv if you are not experienced. there is high voltage in there and there is alignment procedures to do after installing the tube. It is best to order the original service manual they have a step by step replacement guides in them.

I have a Sony KP-48S65 48" Rear Projection Television that the pic just flashes on and off. No error codes are showing. Sound is fine. Any ideas on a cause?

Absolutely. Sony's Trinitron tubes exhibit this failure when they begin to lose gas charge. Translation: THE CRT PICTURE TUBE HAS GONE BAD. Very sorry!
It is a VERY old set, and I'm certain it has brought you hours of good service.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A RCA 263048 or 258485 part please? It is the RED TUBE.

The part number suggests an older set--many of those the only way to get a CRT is send the old one out to a few companies who will rebuild the CRT.

I have a Sony KP-57WS500 57 in. Rear Projection Television with the color red tube not working i want ot know how much 4 a new one and how hard it it is ti change.

Sony does not make the tube available. They want you to remove the Red CRT with the Optic coupler and send it to them so they can remount a new CRT to the old Optic Coupler and they will send it back to you. This usually cost $300.00 to $400.00. It is a major tear down to remove the CRT and there will also ba a alignment of the convergence after the CRT is reinstalled. If you are really interested in doing this, let me know and I will do my best to give you instructions. Something else to consider is that the other 2 CRT's will likely need replacing soon. It is a lot of money to put into a older set that Sony is not supporting anymore. When you add up the parts cost alone for all three it is $900.00 to $1200.00. With the prices of LCD panels coming down in price you could replace the set for the cost of the parts alone.
I hope this helps,

Turns on for a few seconds, turns green then shuts off.

Sounds like you have a problem with the green crt. That is the one I've most commonly seen fail first. Your tv has three picture tubes in it that can be accessed from the front of the set. The picture tubes(crts) have a filament inside the neck like a light bulb has a filament. Over a period of time tiny particles burn off and the debris can cause a short circuit from one piece of the filament to the other. The tubes are no longer avail. as a new replacement part but the tubes in your set can possibly be saved. One trick is to lightly tap on the neck of the tube with an insulated post or screwdriver handle. Right when you turn the set on and it goes green sometimes you can lightly tap on it, (the middle tube) and knock the debris free removing the short. If that doesn't work the tubes can be rejuvinated/cleaned using a machine found in most repair shops known as a picture tube rejuvinator. My experience is that this procedure should cost 100.-200. plus service call. Most service people will tell you that this is not a guaranteed fix, but 90% of the time it works and you can get years of more use from the tv. Good luck, Russmann.

What is crt i thought somthing was sprayed in my set.i cant upload pics but its the board with the 2 windings and the power cord plugs on it.its the only one with the fuse in the bottom tray ill try and...

CRT stands for cathode Ray Tube (picture tube) which just needs a new seal which is minor. You will need to replace your board the other site I work for has new RCa circuit boards. I am including a pic of part 264102 thats not the board where the power cord enters. But let me know if this is the board or not and I will post pics of the other boards in that chassis.492f279.jpg

D61W20 RCA, Red Screen and then shuts down

sounds like the Red CRT (tube) has shorted. You can test by removing the RED crt circuit from the end of the RED tube and making sure it isnt touching anything try powering up the set. If it comes on and doesnt shut down the red tube is the problem and will need to be replaced . expensive part to replace the Red XRT will be over 300 and at least 2-3 hundred to have it installed unless you know someone who can replace it for you.

Crt tube removal

There is not that much high voltage on the projection tubes

Pull the red annode lead from the flyback transformer
Careful not to touch the end of the red lead

Brush the lead across the metal frame that the crt was housed in and that should disapate the hv
If you are not sure it is gone then stick it on the metal again

Remember the tv mus be unpluged befor you attempt this

Good luck

AKAI PT4298HD no pic and no sound

Most likely, this is a problem with the convergence board. The convergence amps (STK392-040 x 2)are internally shorted. These can be replaced of the whole convergence board can be replaced. It's cheaper to replace the amps, but more convienent to replace the board (especially for the less electronically inclined!! :) Also, this could be from a leaking CRT. In CRT projection televisions, the red, green, and blue tube are filled with coolent (glycol). These 42" models are very bad about the tubes leaking (Akai and Samsung models)and are infamous for destroying the CRT driver board connected to the bottom of each tube. When this happens, the protection circuit kicks in and will not let the television start up. *PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DO NOT FOLLOW THESE NEXT STEPS IF YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT!!!! There are four screws and three snap clips that hold the bottom on. UNPLUG THE TELEVISION, remove the screws and pull bottom outward to remove. The bottoms of the three tubes should be visible. DON'T TOUCH THEM!! Now look under each tube. If one is leaking, there will be a wet spot (or sometimes a puddle!) underneath the tube. This will have to be serviced by a TV tech. Hope this helps...

RCA D52W19 52 in.

Replacing any or all of the crt's in a proj TV is a difficult challenge for any qualified technician. It's not something normally done in the home either - because of the adjustments and tear-down required. I'm assuming you have a crt that does not have the cooling chamber already on it. And therefore you'll need to attach the cooling chamber and fill it with EC (a clear fluid similar to anti-freeze) that keeps the crt from overheating. Then there comes the job of alignment. I would assume you don't have a pattern generator or some of the other equipment you'll need. I applaud your abilities thus far but here's where I'd STRONGLY recommend you get a reputable shop to do the install. If you would like some help finding one call NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealer's Assn.) and ask about member shops in your area...

Picture has greenish tint that I can't adjust out

There is a crt drive problem and you can isolate it by unpluggin g the set, removing the green crt socket, in the middle of the three tubes is the green tube by the way, remove one of the other tubes and switching the crt sockets and turn it on. If the set is still greenish, then the green crt is bad and needs replacement, if another color is primart, then it is going to be the green crt drive circuit and is going to need to be serviced. Good Luck
