The two devices can share Nav data only. No radar, Sonar or Chart will be shared.
Hook the RL70 and the E80 together on SeaTalk and all data will be shared both ways. Alternatively, it could be done with NMEA 0183, which is directional, or you could also translate the RL70 data to NMEA 2000 and share it that way. As long as you have all Raymarine equipment, you are home free using a three wire Seatalk connection, with only two hooked up, Yellow and Bare, color to color.
Remember, this will share Nav Data only.

Charts won't load on raymarine e80 chart plotter

If you are having trouble loading charts on your Raymarine E80 chartplotter, there are several things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check the chart card: Make sure that the chart card is inserted correctly and that it is compatible with your chartplotter. Some chartplotters require specific types of chart cards, so check the user manual or contact the manufacturer to ensure compatibility.
2. Check for software updates: Make sure that your chartplotter has the latest software updates installed. You can check for updates on the Raymarine website or by contacting customer support.
3. Check the chart source: Make sure that the chart source is set correctly on your chartplotter. If you have multiple chart sources (e.g. internal memory, external card), make sure that the correct source is selected.
4. Check the chart format: Make sure that the chart format is compatible with your chartplotter. Some chartplotters only support certain chart formats, so check the user manual or contact the manufacturer for compatibility information.
5. Check for obstructions: Make sure that there are no obstructions blocking the GPS antenna or interfering with the chartplotter's reception. Obstructions can include tall buildings, trees, and other objects that block the line of sight to the GPS satellites.
6. Reset the chartplotter: Try resetting the chartplotter to its default settings. This can sometimes clear up software glitches or other issues that may be preventing the charts from loading.
If none of these solutions work, you may need to contact Raymarine customer support for further assistance or repair.

Take care and have a great day! -Alex

Raymarine radar won't power up

Check the wiring to the scanner, eventually test with a multimeter the volt at the scanner, so to find out if the scanner is getting power.

If wires testing reads ok, then probably you have a faulty scanner, and you need to replace it.

I would recommend upgrading the E80 and the DSM to the newest software levels:

E80 - 5.52
DSM - 4.12.

You can download the software off raymarine.com and load them onto different compact flash cards. Both softwares are upgraded through the E80 display.

Lcd with no contrast in the center

The RL 9 is such a old unit that you would be better off calling marine electronic companies and asking if they have a used one for sale. Normally the unit either works or it doesn't. I wouldn't pay more than $200.00 for it if you found one. You may ask if they have one just with the LCD if they don't have a working one. No one works on them anymore since parts are not available.

Raytheon rl70

I've had the same problem. before replacing the antenna, try to reset the antenna by removing power to the Raystar 120. Disconnect power by either turning off all batteries or disconnecting the red wire from the antenna at the point where it enters the junction box for the chartplotter. This action effectively removes all memory from the antenna and resets it to factory settings. There is a lithianium battery in GPS antenna that holds memory data in the antenna. Disconnecting the power to the antenna for a few seconds clears the memory.

This is exactly what I did and when I turned the chartplotter back on, my Raystar 120 immediately began working again.

Replacing an RL-70 with an RL 70-CRC

I did exactly what you wish to do a couple of years ago. It was a 5 minute job, cut out the same except the new unit needs a little more space behind and it was a plug for plug swap. Works great and swaps data between the matching chart plotter to give chart overlay on the radar

Master vs. repeater confusion

The master/repeater selection is for the purpose of determining which display is in control of the waypoint and route database.

Turn on both units and let them boot up. Do not answer the master/repeater question until both are on. Then press "Set as master" on the preferred one.

The units remember individually if they were set as a master or repeater the last time they were on. If they are powering up to find themselves in a different configuration than they were previously in, that will prompt the whole master/repeater thing to happen.
