Question about Computers & Internet

I have the a74mx-k, most recent bios update. EVGA 9600gso vid card. 430w pwrsupply. For some reason, the setup will not play star wars galaxies. It will stutter and then lockup and require a crtl-alt-delete taskmanager to close. Sony was less than helpful. Most recent nvidea drivers. HELP!

I have 2gb of ram on the system, Pc800. The processor is a single core 2.6ghz athelon, not OCed. Trying your suggestion now.

OK, although I really liked this defragger, that didn't help. Locked in the opening sequence.
Sony was convinced that my video card wasn't getting enough power and that the drivers were trying to catch up. I know that my card is a pciEx16 2, and the slots only a PCIEx16, but the documentation says that shouldn't be a problem, and I can play oblivion with the settings on high with no issue at all. Anything else I can try here?

Hi,

The motherboard is good enough and so is your graphics card so i don't see any reason why the games not playing.
Games like star wars galaxies are memory dependent as well as processor dependent.

How much system memory have you got installed in the system? Also have you got a decent AMD dual core processor?

If you think that your system maybe lacking in system memory the what you can do to play the game is set all the settings of the game to medium. That way you can play the game while you wait to upgrade the system.
The game should run on a far less powerful machine according to the system requirements of the game.

If I was you i would uninstall the game and then perform a system defragmentation (defrag), then reinstall the game.

If you want a decent defrag program then i recommend Defraggler >>>>

http://www.filehippo.com/download_defraggler

Download and install the program. Run Defraggler and restart the computer. Install the game and see if it will play without locking up.

Let me know how you get on just in case you need more help.

Good luck.

It could be that your card is getting hot...does it happen after some time of playing? It could also mean that your patches for your game will need to be updated..to fix the heat issue get a program called EVGA precision and put up your fan speed on the card..here is the link for evga precision http://downloads.guru3d.com/EVGA-Precision-1.7.1-download-2251.html..Let me know the outcome if possible please ;-)

Microsoft DirectX 9.0c (April 2006 Edition) is included on this CD. You will be prompted to install DirectX during the installation of this game if this or a more recent version is not already properly installed on your system.
NOTE: DirectX may require the "latest" updates for your operating system. This may also include the latest drivers for your motherboard, sound, and video hardware.

Installation: Installation requires 3.5 GB of free hard drive space. We recommend that you have an additional 500 MB of free space available after installing the game for the Windows swap/page file.

You must have local Administrator rights to properly install LEGO Star Wars II and update Dire

No other programs should be running in the background.
System resources should be at least 85% free.

To check this:
Press CTRL-ALT-DEL once, choose Task Manager, choose the Performance tab, and check CPU Usage.
There should be at least 500 MB of free hard disk space after installation.

If you experience performance issues when running LEGO Star Wars II, we recommend that adjust the following options in the Video Options menu:

Lower the video resolution.
Set Antialias to Off
If this option is set to Antialias from Control Panel, you will need to set your Antialiasing Setting to Application-Controlled in the Windows Display Properties for your specific graphics card.
Disable Bloom Effect.

Please close all other programs before running LEGO Star Wars II. This includes virus-scanning, word processing, and Internet programs. Simply disabling these programs will not always help, as the programs still use resources that are needed to run LEGO Star Wars II. If you experience problems completely closing programs that are running, consult the documentation for those individual programs. This is a common problem when trying to completely disable virus-scanning software.
