Dell Inspiron 1150 Sound Card

I have a problem with my Inspiron 1150. Just a couple of weeks ago the sound all of sudden stopped working. I have tried to reinstall the SigmaTel driver but it won't let me. An error message comes up while trying to install it and it says, "Installing SigmaTel C-Major Audio" and then it says, "Device object not present, restart the system and run setup again." I don't know what to do about this seeing as the computer doesn't recognize the sound card all of a sudden. I ran dxdiag and it says No Sound Card Found. Can someone please help me?

    Hi all,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 XP laptop. Few days back I faced a problem with the sound driver. So I reinstalled the SigmaTel driver. After that the audio was working fine. But suddenly it stopped and when I am going to reinstall the driver, it is showing error

"Exit Error: Error = Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again"

Even after restarting, the error is persisting.

Hi Pace,

Got to Start>Control Panel>System. Click on the hardware tab. Click on Device manager. Go down to Sound, Video and game controller. See if the Sigma is listed there. If it is, right click an select "Uninstall" Then reboot. Windows should detect it, and reinstall it. If that fails, go to Start>Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any Sigma Software. Download this registry cleaner,
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download458.html and save it to your desktop and run it. Reboot, and hope.
You can also try downloading the newest drivers, here,

Good Luck!

Your laptop has a hardware problem. The unrecognized sound card and USB ports are a dead giveaway. You probably have a loose wire, or worse, a motherboard that is going bad. If your laptop is under warranty, call Dell and get the laptop to them right away. If not, you'll have to have an experienced repair person look at it and you'll have to decide if it's worth fixing. I'm such a person, and I'm a Dell partner. I'm in Rockville, MD and if you're nearby, please call me or send me a message through my website.

My laptop speakers aren't working. A few days ago I kept receiving a pop-up from SigmaTel which would freeze my computer but the message stopped. Now my speakers stopped working completely.

If you have a restore point of a week ago, backstep your machine to the restore point.

Find restore in START: PROGRAMS/ACCESORIES/SYSTEMTOOLS

AUDIO O/P SOUND CHANGED SUDDENLY

How about trying with its internal speakers ?
if it works fine then the sound output jack-port have a problem.
If not working then try to re-install your audio drivers.
If still not having good result even if you re-install your operating system, you should go to repair center since you have a hardware failure.

My computer laptop just shut down and will not turn on

Sounds like the power jack on the motherboard is bad. If you plug the power in and it doesnt show that it is charging (light indicator on the front) then that is probably the issue. Your choices are purchase a new motherboard or do like I did and order a 15$ replacement piece on ebay and resolder it in yourself. Its tricky to do but I managed to get through it.

Sound

First make sure it is not muted. You can also check and maybe update the sound card drivers.

It's also possible that it's a hardware problem, e.g. broken speaker wires.
