Try a master reset: After you know the batteries are fully charged!
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To perform a Master Reset on the nuvi 200,series device: Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.

  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
    • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  6. Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

I dropped my Garming Nuvi 260 this past weekend and when I turn it on it goes to a screen saying Updating GPS Firmware 1% then jumps to Updating GPS Firmware Complete. It keeps popping up with these...

Inspect the bottom of your Nuvi 260. According to the owner's manual, some models have a small "Reset" button on the bottom. If yours does, you'll use this to reset the Nuvi 260.Press and hold the "Reset" button for several seconds, until the Nuvi powers off and powers back on. Next try
to slide the power switch on top all the way to the left to reset your Nuvi if it does not have a "Reset" button. Performing this action resets the system.
Next try a hard reset.
Slide the power switch to "Off."
Press your finger against the screen in the lower-right corner. Hold your finger in this position.
Slide the power switch to "On" to turn the Nuvi on. Continue holding your finger on the screen until the pop-up window appears. When it does, press "Yes" to reset your Nuvi to its factory settings.

Hope this works but dropping may have caused internal damage. If this does not work you may have to send it back to Garmin for service. I will attach a link for Garmin. Thanks for using FixYa.

Garmin Nuvi 610 not Acquiring satelites. it was working fine and while driving suddenly said something about poor reception, now nothing

Hello,

Its sounds like your GPS's internal receiver is broken, you may be able to fix this with a firmware update but it is likely you will have to purchase an external antenna for your GPS to be functional.

Hope this helps!

First time using my garmin 205W and it only holds satelite service for about 10 minutes

I recommend you replace the firmware and system software using webupdate. Updates in the Nuvi 205 firmware has increased its satellite reception and accuracy.

I hope that helps.

No satelite reception

Most GPS problems - Hangs, frozen screens, problems acquiring satellites, ETC, can be attributed to the device not having the latest firmware installed.
This firmware enables it to communicate with the satellites - but if they aren't speaking the same language they get confused easily. For Garmin GPS Automotive units, Garmin has you do the following before sending it in for repairs:
1 - SOFT RESET
2 - HARD RESET (CLICK HERE to see instructions for either reset)
3 - UPDATE the device using their WebUpdater software (CLICK HERE for that) Garmin is the only company that offers repairs AFTER the warranty has expired. They offer a FLAT RATE REPAIR service for units no longer in warranty. For Other GPS units please consult your owner's manual or their support site - as each model - and even manufacture dates - can lead to different reset procedures. TomTom
NAVIGON

MAGELLAN NEXTAR does NOT offer any types of Firmware or map upgrades or repair services. Instead - they have an exchange program to update to a new UNIT for around the same price as a repair would be. CLICK HERE for more on that. WARRANTY on most GPS devices is 1 year from the date of purchase. Broken screens are considered ABUSE - and not covered under warranty. Finally - If your unit is on the charger for HOURS, You've tried both the car AND USB type charger, and you turn it on... it stays on for a minute (or so) then powers down or never comes on at all - the battery has lost it's ability to hold a charge and must be replaced. Looking around YouTube - you can get a tutorial on how to CAREFULLY crack open just about any GPS. The tool(s) necessary typically are included with the battery purchase. Typically batteries run about $25 +/-. NiCd batteries are meant to be energized once a month so they keep active, and don't build up deposits that lead to their premature failure. I hope this was helpful for you. Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
