Use the following link:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=gen&catid=&impid=&os=WW1&osl=en&ServiceTag=7JKZ41J&SystemID=PLX_PNT_CEL_GX60

pick your operating system, then under the "network" tab you will find downloads for hardware specific to your machine (probably 3Com).

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device

The device is the Southbridge chip, of the motherboard chipset.

You can download the LAN and device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Computer does not meet the minimum requirement for to download the video driver Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller for Vostro Desktop 400. It is what dell says I need to download for my computer.

Dell says it's the necessary driver, are you using the service tag on the pc? The service tag will show you the specific drivers for your pc based on the OS it shipped with. If you're not sure where to find it, it's usually located on the back of the case where all of your usb and ethernet connections are on a white sticker consisting of a number/letter combination. Have you changed the OS? This may require you to download the driver associated with the OS being used also. It also may be a video card issue worse case scenario.

Missing ethernet controllet and SM bus controller

SM bus controller will be under the chipset option. the ethernet controller will be under the NIC option. if you are using a third party NIC, you'll have to download from them. to ensure proper drivers, enter your service tag at dell.com.

No ethernet controller device found

If you went to support.dell.com and keyed in your service tag from the Dimension - dell should allow you to drill down and select the correct one.

Sometimes there are a few - usually from the month to month the machines were made the drivers can be different.
I have had to open the case and get the model number off the device before

Need a driver

access support.dell.com. go to drivers and downloads. then pick choose by service tag. your service tag can be located at the bottom of your laptop. put in the service tag number and you'll get other options. most likely, you'll be able to see the device driver for your ethernet controller.

i hope this info helps.

Ethernet driver(s) for dell motherboard (0WF887)

Yes you can get your drivers at www.dellsupport.com and put your express service code into the space provided,
Your service tag should be located on top the case, Or on the back should be by the COA and then it will take you to the spot you can find your Broadcom internet and wireless drivers there.
Hope that gets you going If not just write back here and I will get them for you.
