Can't accress the internet as there is no gateway showing

My router is connected to the internet and my PC is connected to the router via a cable. The local area connection says there is traffic between it and the router. However, I can't access the internet as there is no gateway showing on my PC. What's going on?

Should I reset the router and delete the local area connection from my PC. Or is there another way to get back on to the internet. Thanks

Check whether your pc has static ip's set,

Go to Start/settings/Network Connections/Wireless connections
Click on Properties
Under the General Tab scroll in window to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Next click on Properties
Make sure that both buttons (IP / DNS) are set to obtain automatically

Need to network a wireless pc with a cable pc via router

man u have a router!!!!!!!!!

no need to share the connection
just configure ur router,
put ur broadband connection log-in information in the router
so the router will act as a gateway
and the router will start the dhcp server, so both of ur pc's will have ip's from the same subnet
when the router connects to the internet
the 2 pc's will do the same,

Cannot connect my Mac Pro to the internet via my Belkin wireless

With the router powered on, use a small thin object to press and hold the reset button for exactly seven seconds. The router lights will flash and this will restore the router to factory default. Connect your computer to one of the routers lan ports with an etherent cable. Open your web browser and navigate to 192.168.2.1. This should show the router status page with the default settings.

This will make the router unsecured again, so be sure to go back into setup and reset your Wireless security. I suggest using WEP authentication, and using a 10 digit ph # for your key (that way its easy to remember).

Wireless connection

Access the routers admin page with the hardwired pc.  http://*gateway*  right click network status on pc and get gateway.  Google the model you have for the default passwords.  Setup your wifi security then do the same to your laptop and attempt to connect again.  Bad settings somewhere.

it will as long as the modem/router is connected to a phone line, instead of the pc, the only cable connected to the pc should be a ethernet cable; or you have the pc networking set that it connects via another pc instead of through a gateway, re run the wireless network wizard.

3 netopia 2247 routers daisychained

How far are you running the CAT5 cables from house to house?   CAT5e only has a solid range of about 150ft, and anything near 100ft is pushing it.  You may also need to use CROSSOVER cables when plugging routers into other routers.
Also, who has the actual internet connection?  I'm assuming House 2 does.  One big problem is a router is your Gateway address.  And, if house 2 is the only one with a valid Internet connection (via DSL or Cable, etc), then the router in house 2 is the only "true gateway".  And, all 3 houses need to be in the same physical network (i.e. 192.168.1.0 range or whatever), and all computers should have the same Gateway address...which would be the IP address of the router in House 2.
What you really need in this situation is 1 router and 2 switches.  Put the router in House 2 and put switches in House 1 and 3.  That would be the best way to handle this problem.  It would also end your connectivity problems.
Cheers!

Configuration Utility

Can you ping the router? I mean open a dos shell, type ping -tf 192.168.1.254 - what are the results? Maybe the ping fails, because you need to have your pc set to the same subnet address, to access the router on that IP. Test ping to your own gateway address first.. That will work & show you what to expect from a working ping. You get the gateway address by opening a dos shell & typing ipconfig /all - that shows the current IP address plus the gateway address. Actually, the gatway address might be the same as the router config address, unless you have a NAT function turned on.. Anyway, if you change your IP address to 192.168.1.252 - For example, you will no longer be able to access the internet, but shud be able to enter the configuration web page of the router.. Try the router default settings first. Another thing is that some routers require a direct cable called a 'crossover' cable to connect to the router or you have to go via a hub or a switch, with standard ethernet cables.. This probably looks confusing, but if it does not help, pls post your questions here.. Rgds,

HELP PLEASE ASAP

OK well I think it is better to set it up like this... Connect the Modem to the Phone Line, Connect the Modem to the Router with an Ethernet Cable, Use a CABLE connection from the Main PC to the Router. (Ya gonna ditch the USB WiFi) Set that Main PC connection up to connect to the internet from the Main PC, thru Router thru Modem.... Then from Slave, install the USB adapter in this PC, and use this to connect DIRECTLY to the WiFi Router... and thus to the internet. This way will give the best transfer rates, and reliability
