The Touchpad is pressure sensitive, you can program the Touchpad's functionality. Go to Control Panel, click, to open Mouse Properties. Click the Device settings (block), select the Settings button; after the Touchpad Wizard appear! "View the (left) "Select an item" pane, and click to start the Touchpad's actions." Re toshiba techra 8000

Some laptops have a touch pad between the keyboard and the edge of the laptop. This works like a mouse except you slide your finger around the pad to move the mouse pointer and the buttons next to the touch pad are the left and right buttons.
Other laptops have a small round button in the middle of the keyboard which is a mini joystick and it is used to move the mouse pointer around, it will have a couple of mouse buttons at the botom edge of the keyboard.
You can connect a normal mouse to your laptop, it is mush easier than using the laptop's touch pad or mini joystick.

You may want to open the laptop and check for damage to the touch pad including connection to the mother board. If you can not see any visible damage to pad or connection replace with another pad. Good Luck

Touch pad not working properly

Plug in a usb mouse and go to control panel>system>hardware>device Manager (if using XP) or control panel>system>device manager (if using vista) and right click on pointing devices, unistall the touch pad and reboot - remove the usb mouse and the touchpad will be installed again as new hardware. I hope this helps
