Question about Canon PIXMA MP760 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Hi I think the noise you are hearing is the head or carriage that moves up and down a silver bar trying to unsuccessfully move, turn the power off and see if you can manually move the carriage to the center, don't force it or pull it via cables. If you can move it check either side for paper smashed up against printer wall. Check for any obstruction in the carriage area, ensure all cartridges are secure.
Sometimes even after all this is checked and cleared the problem still exists, this is due to what is called an encoder strip getting stained or dirty. A encoder strip tells the printer where it is along the carriage and if this thin plastic strip that runs parr-ell to the shiny silver carriage bar, gets ink on it the printer cant read the spaces between the tiny lines that are printed on it, make sure this encoder strip (can be a wheel on some models) is spotless, I use metho and rag very gently on it, sometimes the ink stains the plastic beyond cleaning and needs to be replaced, mind you the cost of repairing any ink jet thes days is uneconomical.
hope this helps with your issue.

Sounds like something is stuck, like the print head.
Give this a try: Power off the printer. Open the top of the printer and move the print head from the left to the right. Power the printer on, again.
Hope this helps.
