DVD recorder does not recognise disc

My Toshiba dvd video (model D-R150SB) recorder does not recognise the Memorex DVD-R discs and tells me they are unsuitable. How can I rectify this?

  • Bill81 Jan 08, 2008

It works ok on DVD-RW, I was trying to transfer my sons wedding video from vhs tape to dvd disc so I chose DVD-R so it would not be recorded over.

Yeah, the only thing I had found was a site saying + media for burning.

I have had that happen with certain blank DVD's and CD's where I just had to go through the spindle and try more blank DVD's/CD's before it found one it liked.

Can you try the Blanks on someone else's DVD recorder or have them give you some blanks to try? This would help eliminate if it's the discs that are bad.

Model DMR-ES30VEB. I have had this recorder for a few years now but since I got a new Sony TV at christmas I am having problems recording. When I record a programme the DVD says it does not recognise the...

DVD-RW discs are ideal for temporary video recording and data backup, but they are not recommended for successful finalising, as there is no guarantee that the disc will work in another device.

Have you tried using DVD-R discs? these CAN be recorded in video mode AND finalised for compatible playback in other players. I assume the DMR-ES30V is a DVD/VCR combo unit - if so, the DVD recorder will not recognise RW discs; only DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

DVD-R discs are recommended for video recording and finalising in this model. (later model Panasonic DVD recorders allow RW disc recording).

Disc say cant record, what disc do i buy

This model (PY90DG) DVD recorder supports the following disc recording formats: DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD-R for everyday video. These should record fine. The RW discs are for repeated recording/erasure while the R discs are once-only recording types - the R discs must be finalised in this deck to make them playable on other DVD players. DVD-RAM discs are NOT supported by this unit. This recorder will play MP3 files on a CD-R or CD-RW (not DVD-ROM) just fine as well, but will not record them.

Best discs to buy for this type of recorder are DVD-R (recommended brand - Verbatim or TDK if you can get them, but not Memorex). These are OK.

The DVD Burner will not burn a Memorex DVD - R . Should I purchase Verbatum or Memorex for an older model MSI DVD Burner? Or, Should I purchase Verbatum or Memorex for an older model Samsung TS H652...

You are on the right track. Every "multi-format" DVD recorder, DVD burner and DVD-RW drive I have ever owned has had problems with one type of media or another. This is because the discs all have their own patented dye mixtures, and each is a little bit different.

I have problems using Memorex DVD-R discs on my Toshiba DVD recorder. The only drive I can get good results with Memorex DVD-R's is on my Memorex DVD drive.

For DVD-R media, I have had the best success with TDK DVD-R's.So far, they have worked on all my devices.

You may want to try DVD+R media. I use Memorex Lightscribe DVD+R and for dual layer recording, I use Ativa DVD+R DL discs, both of which have worked very well and I rarely have to throw one away.

It takes allot longer, but on my PC I always use the "verify" function to make sure I get a good copy.

If there is nothing on the disc, it will read, "no disc". It will only read and/or identify discs with media loaded or burned onto it. Your unit is a player, not a DVD+R (recorder). Can record VHS, but not discs.

DVD disc tray keeps popping out

I had mine for 2 years and within the first 12 months the tray would not always pop out when I wanted it to. Then finally the machine would not recognise the disc type. Its in getting fixed but although the dvd drive and associated pcb have been replaced the guy says it still can't recognise the dvd disc type. Still trying to work it out.

DVD PLAYS CD'S BUT WONT PLAY DVD'S

Aquarius0128 there are two things to consider here.. dvd's recorded on a computer need to be closed/finalized after you have recorded onto them in order to be used on a stand alone player.. they will play ok on original recorder because of the design of these machines finalizing prepares the structure of the disc so it can be recognised by other players as a dvd video disc.. you will usually see a 'finalize disc' option in your recording program

Second issue is this.. even if finalized an older (or even some modern) stand alone players will not recognise a recorded disc made on a computer or even if it can there are different formats DVD+R DVD-R and even DVD-RAM and DVD-RW (the two latter ones are rarely recognised outside a computer)
