Is this happening when booting up from cold or when you log in after hibernate or sleep mode?

Have you looked at the volume setting to see if its setting to mute?   (in windows this is found in the bottom right of the start bar or in control panel).

A trick that can sometimes work is to download and install Skype, create an account and log in.  Then make a skype test call.  This seems to over ride rough shod over any setting and get sound and mics working.  Although this is perhaps a bit of overkill.

"No Active Mixer Device installed".....The Sound and Audio issue of Windows.....the infamous issue being faced by many PC/Laptop/Notebook users all over the world....on clicking the volume control icon in the task bar near the clock.....or....Sound and Audio Devices Grayed Out in the Control Panel

Guys....the solution's very simple....This is a sure shot solution...101% guarantee...Just do this...

Go to Device Manager, select Sound, Audio and Games Ctlr expand (+) press the plus sign, go one by one on all those that show a speaker image...select each one by one and right click, and if it has the "uninstall" option...just uninstall. Dont do anything further....just shut down pc/laptop
Then...u need to go into system BIOS
1 - Start PC/Laptop...press DEL or F1/F2/Insert/Home key...this selection of key to go into BIOS depends upon ur type of PC in some Del key works in some F1/F2 key works to go into BIOS....you need to do this before the WindowsXP screen appears....get into BIOS...
2 - Scroll/go to On Board Peripherals...press enter...next screen....
3 Look for
A- "On Board audio"
B- "AC97 audio" or any thing that says "Audio"
C- "Look for anything that says "MIDI" with some numbers 301,205 etc in [ ]
just Disable all the above by using PgUP PGDN key Press F10 and chose Yes to save the setting in BIOS or use Save and Exit in BIOS

Let WinXP load...go to Device Manager...go to Sound Audio and Games Controller...check all those that you uninstalled earlier if they RE-Appear...It should NOT......Re-appear.....if it does then do the above process once more.

U are now all set for the next move....

U need to spend just 1$ to buy this product on Ebay...you can buy any similar product of your choice but it must have the audio and mic output ports like this one has...and must be able to connect to your USB port of your PC/Laptop

This below image and product name is only for your info, you can buy any such similar product available in your area....but it's must have the Audio and Mic output ports like the one on the image below and must be able to connect to your PC/Laptops USB ports...

"USB 2.0 Mic Speaker 5.1 Audio Sound Card ADAPTER #9340"

You can Google it and locate it where you can buy...

Connect it to a USB port, connect your speakers/mic to the correct audio/mic slots in this device....WinXP will auto install this hardware and you will get back your Volume Control Icon...and all functions will work in Control Panel (Sound and audio Devices)...often on signing on no sound from my laptop - 8cea5f3.png

My pump hums for a few minutes and then quits altogether.

This is a classic sign that it is miswired. Check to make sure wether you are using 110 or 220 wiring and then verify how the motor is wired. If this is an existing motor, you probably are getting moisture to the motor. Not a good thing. Replacing the pump shaft seal may do the trick, however you'll want to check the motor for any other obvious signs.

My laptop has stopped charging altogether and won't turn on anymore. I don't know if it's an issue with the charger or the battery. What can I do to try to fix it?

I've seen many problems like this as a computer technician and here's what you can.

Find a replacement charger for your laptop online or a local computer shop. Most times, it's the charger. Laptops chargers usually only last 1-2 years before they start to show signs of failing.
If a new charger doesn't solve it, the problem could be internal, either the power jack inside the laptop or the motherboard.
Have a computer technician check out the laptop if the problem persists.
Also, check the Lenovo website if there has been any recalls on your specific laptop.

Hope this helped.

Cannot access my internet explorer browser or AOL using DSL

Looks like you may have a few different problems. Right now you cannot get your wireless laptop to see your router, correct? If this is a newer laptop for you, then the problem may be too simple. On the new hp laptops above the keyboard are light indicators for sound, volume and wireless connections. They are also buttons. The wireless one is on the right of the volume control. You turn your wireless on and off by pressing on the light. It should turn from a yellow/orange to a deep blue. Blue is on, yellow/orange is off.

Leave feedback if this was the problem. Otherwise leave more information just about the wireless setup.

HP notebook will not restart after closing cover overnight

Think it went into hibernation. Unplug from a/c adaptor, and remove the battery. Let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes, then plug in a/c adaptor and turn the unit on. It should reboot like new.

Magnavox 20MS233S

Has it been moved latley? try to unplug it over night then try it. Sometimes they need to be reset. Some tvs go threw a test phase and need to do it a few times. If it has taken a fall it could be damaged or somthing may have come unplugged internaly. It may have over heated is it free from dust? electronics attract dust like a magnet. Is there any signs of somthing spilled on it? water damage?
