Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

1 Answer

My ACER 4520 appears to be overheating and then turning off. I have just vacuum cleaned out the vents thinking it might be a dust issue. The laptop has only just started doing this - it is about 2 years old. Any other suggestions?

It is very possible that you haven't done anything wrong. You vacuumed it and it is great, but there are places inside the lap top which you can not clean from outside, but have to take it apart and then you can clean it. If you aren't too shure how to do that, take it to your local costumer care service. It isn't expencive

It keeps freezing on me! Laptop is running Vista which i think is causing the problems, could i be able to instal XP SP3 on it instead so i can get it up and running?

While Vista is undoubtedly a bad OS, it may be simply that your CPU is overheating. If you are not comfortable with removing the keyboard or anyother covers, You may try 'cleaning the vents underand on the sides by blowing them clean with canned air. If this does not solve the problem thatn you have have an issue with the heatsink not being prerly seted on the CPU. It could be a number of other thing like - bad ram overheated voltage regulaters or some other problem. BUt my expernece is that it is overheating caused by dust or 'whatever'.

My Acer 5315 is overheating helpp

Follow these steps to avoid overheating:
-Don't use your laptop in full sunlight for extended periods
-Don't leave your laptop in a closed car on a sunny day
-Don't place your laptop on or near extreme heat sources, such as radiators, hot air vents
-Turn off your laptop before putting it in your carry bag
-Turn off your laptop when not in use for a long period
-Work on an even surface as much as possible ?€" not your lap!
-Clean the air vents in your laptop regularly by using a can of compressed air
-Get more space under your computer by propping it up on something when it's on a desk
-Consider purchasing a laptop cooling pad
-Consider purchasing an external fan

To clean your laptop's cooling system follow these steps:
-Shut down the laptop ie do not leave it suspended, sleeping or hibernating.
-Unplug all cables from the unit and remove the battery pack
-Get a can of compressed air and blow it into all vents around your computer - this should clear out any dust and hair.
-Do Not use a vacuum cleaner.

My acer aspire 5315 shuts off suddenly and won't restart till it wants to. I replaced the battery, no difference....what's wrong?

This could be a sign that your laptop is overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked.
You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced

I have a ACER 5735 . The laptop shuts down suddenly while its on and sometimes im not able to switch on the laptop and even if i switch on , then once again the power goes off immediately . What would be...

Hi,

The reason for the sudden shut down of your computer is because of overheating of the 'case', where the CPU is mounted. Overheating can be due to dust accumulation on the heat sink, which prevents dissipation of heat. The possible solution to combat overheating issue is to keep the laptop dust free by cleaning out debris at the vents frequently. Note that a laptop has a much smaller cooling area in comparison with desktops and hence laptops tend to accumulate dust a lot quicker than desktops. This is because all the dust/debris, in the case of laptops, accumulate in the cooling fins.

Hi, i have a acer aspire 5051, running amd turion 64, on vista. the laptop has worked no problem for 2 years, now it will only start up for 2 to 3 seconds and then shut of again. could you please advice to...

It sounds to me as if the laptop is either overheating or has a faulty motherboard. Could you turn the laptop off, flip the laptop over and check the heat vents on the underside and side of the system for dust and debris? If there's dust there go ahead and vacuum it out.

After vacuuming it out remove the battery and disconnect the power cable. Press the power switch a couple times then replace the battery, plug the system back in and attempt to power the system on.

See if this resolves the issue. If it doesn't, and the system is under warranty, I'd contact Acer Support.

dear friend
if that acer is under warranty i advise you to please take it to the service center cause there is a hard possibility of the motherboard to be faulty so you can get it replaced
and if it not under warranty please give it for repairs before the problem gets more worst

Tring to run restore disk but laptop kepts shut down

Maybe it's shutting down because it overheating. Check all your air vents for dust buildup. Use an old toothbrush to brush the dust away from the vent holes and blow air through the vents using one of those compressed air cans made for cleaning keyboards. One time I worked on a Sony laptop that I had to take apart to get all the dust cleaned out of the air vent. You can also try running your restore disk with the laptop sitting right next to a window A/C unit. Try to position the laptop so it gets maximum exposure to the cold air of the A/C unit.

If you get the laptop working again and you think overheating is a problem I recommend downloading a free piece of software named FanSpeed. Here's a link.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/SpeedFan.shtml I'll let you read the description for yourself, but in short it allows you to monitor the temperature inside your computer and to adjust how the fans react to this temperature.

Hi

the freezes and lines is most likely the video card failing, or overheating, or damage from overheating.

Its a common problem with the acer aspires, what can you do about it? Vacuum the dust out form the fan or use canned air to blow it out, there will be a lot of it.

Try one of those cooling pads that goes under it.

depending on how bad the problem is with the video card which in most of these laptops can't be user replaced. Got warranty? It might help or might not help at all. That is generally caused by poor cooling and dust in the fan heat sinks so the air doesn't flow and too much heat being generated by the board and its components eventually damaging the video card or the motherboard.

About the 2nd problem, its mainly caused because of your hand touching the touch-pad try a news paper on top of the touch pad or a usb keyboard and see if that problem goes away.
