I want to unlock my motorola i856, what is the procedure

You can Unlock it simply using the Unlock code,You can get the Unlock code from the site
www.mobile-unlocker.com
and Follow the instructions and unlock it step by step.

Motorola I856 Select your current network to see a list of available unlocking services noimage.gif Network Provider Select your Current Service Provider

Motorola I856 Unlocking Instructions Warning : Do not enter any wrong unlock codes on your Motorola I856 mobile phones. If you enter over a certain amount of wrong unlock codes on your Motorola I856 mobile phone, your phone may get hard locked and sometimes become unusable.
1 - Switch ON your Motorola I856 with a NOT ACCEPTED SIM Card,
2 - Phone will display "Enter Special Code",
3 - You can now enter the Unlock Code.

NOT ACCEPTED: We mean, to use a sim card from a network other than the network your Motorola I856 is locked to.

WARNING: If one of theses messages appear :

- "Contact Service Provider"
- "Tampert Alter"
- "Wait before enter special Code"
- "Contact Service'

It's because you or somebody already entered too many wrong codes, you just have to leave the Motorola I856 ON with the errors message and after 40 minutes to 2 hours the message "Enter Code Special" will appear again!

I had an old nextel phone it was a i730 and i had to go on the internet on the phone every time i got a text message and i just got a i290 and i still have to go on the internet to send and receive text....

The Text messaging on the I290 is based on Java technology the requires you to go use the web portal..

Newer phones like the i776, i465,i410,i9,i856 no longer require that...

Need a special code to unlock a Motorola i856

unfortunately these are not compatible. nextel is an iden carrier, while att is a gsm carrier. it's like apples and oranges. If you need to transfer contacts then you can get that done at any best buy. they will usually do it for free or for a minimal cost.. good luck

The i856 is an iDEN phone.  iDen runson BOOST Mobile/Nextel ONLY.  It cannot run on t-mobile, which is a GSM system.  It is not possible, even if you unlock the phone, they are completely different radios and networks.

GSM mode

First of all, what service do you use? I'd assume you are using Nextel, which is iden. For this reason, setting it to gsm doesn't work. iden was apparently the last setting used, so "last active" also works. Motorola, for some unknown reason, decided not to allow Nextel users to text message.

There are two ways around this.
1. One is to send a multimedia message with only text (no pictures, sounds, etc). This should be treated as a text message.
2. The other way is to follow this guide, which should allow you to change the registry on your phone and get rid of the message. Note that the first posters made the guide for telus users, so be sure to use the nextel sms number (found later in the thread, I believe).

I530 text messaging issue

To be able to send and reply to text messages you must have NOL net access. Press menu(left of the left arrow key), scroll to net, press ok(if an error message appears contact nextel for internet service), scroll to text messaging, press ok. From there you can write, read and reply to text messages. The reason for having to do it this way is because this phone as well as others with nextel were being produce when text was first being introduced to nextel, at that time motorola wasn't making nextel phones with the option of text, so it was up to the provider to give text access(via. net).
