Booting problen

first off does it come up with any error messages like no MBR found or no HDD found

if so install Knoppix cd or dvd version to a disk or a usb.
if you are unsure how to install knoppix to disk download universal usb installer and select the knoppix iso image.

once you've done that go into the bios and change the first boot device to either the CD/DVD or USB if it boots from either than your PC is fine you will need to reinstall the OS or replace HDD.

if you can see HDD in knoppix there is no reason to Replace HDD

if you cant boot to either of these try taking one stick of ram out and swap them between dimm slots

Need to download rt120.bpl

1. When are you getting this error message?
2. Have you made any changes to your computer recently?
3. What is the exact error message you receive?

I would suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps.
Method 1:
Step 1:
Login to Safe Mode and then check if it helps.
Start your computer in safe mode

Step 2: Perform a clean boot and then check if it helps.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
NOTE: Make sure that you perform "step 7" in the link mentioned above to boot your computer normally.

Method 2: Scan your computer for virus using Microsoft Security Scanner and then check if it helps.
Microsoft Safety Scanner
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.
Hope this helps.

I have a Compaq Presario f700 running Windows 7 64bit. It freezes up at bootup, unless at the Compaq screen I press the [DEL] button to view the start-up sequence message. Why? How can I fix it?

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
if this fails to fix the problem

During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing you might be able to work your way through problem if you are unable to find a solution

restart back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode

click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time
click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option

hope this helps

Hello, I have a problem with my computer, I think all started with a virus when downloading a program to diagnose the pc or a driver for the modem, try removing the virus with several antivirus with no...

I think you just erased your hardrive. (Or it wouldn't show the Operating system not found message).
That means your data is already lost. (Unless you have 2 harddrives in your pc)

Get a Windows Installer CD from a trusted source. ( Maybe the local computer store can lend you one)
Test this cd on another pc (By just booting the cd , not by running the installer!)

Install Windows using this cd (Start it using F12 like you said)

You can run msconfig.exe from the Start Menu then search for that file in the Startup List and uncheckit. If you cannot start your PC becouse of this error, just manntain the Shift key pressed during boot to skip loading Startup programms, then do the msconfig.exe thing.

Doesn't boot. IR remote working. No boot lights. Remove memory stick, tries to boot. If program on memory stick, can a new one be purchased?

Power down completely and then remove the memory stick. Wait a full 30 to 60 seconds with power off. Power up to start boot process. Pay attention to the screen while booting to note any messages during this time. If the computer fails to boot still - check the drives (floppy, CD and DVD) to be sure none have disks inside - remove any if found. Attempt a warm reboot if possible - otherwise perform a cold / hardware reboot.

If still not booting, access the computer's BIOS and make sure the information on those pages are correct. If in doubt, set any unknown values to "default" or auto detect. Be sure that the bootable hard disk appears in the boot order somewhere - if not the set as the first bootable device.

Once booting successfully into the OS, insert the memory stick and attempt to read the contents. Many applications that ship on memory cards are not bootable - but yours may. Read the info supplied wit the memory card fully to be sure.

If unable to boot the computer, provide the manufacturer's name, model and your OS. Also include the name of the application on the memory card.

Hopefully, you'll have gotten the computer started before needing to write back with more info. I hope his was helpful - and good luck!

Try booting up the computer in safe mode with networking. If you can get it to boot up then see if your anti-virus scanner will run. Sometimes viruses will disable the anti-virus when they damage your computer. If your anti-virus will not run in safe mode then you will need to try and do an online scan. You can go to and use their free online virus scanner called housecall. It is a very good scanner and should remove the virus. After the scan is complete and if a virus is removed you will need to do this step before your re-boot. Go into the control panel and find the system restore settings and disable it. This is critical because the virus can install itself into the system restore and will re-install on the computer from there if system restore is not disabled. Then reboot the computer and if it boots up without a problem run another scan with the virus scanner. Then re-enable system restore. If you are unable to boot into safemode then the windows installation is corrupted by the virus and I reccomend that you do a format and re-install of the OS. If you try and do a repair the virus will still be there when you complete the repair. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I will assume that the that the computer is not booting. The error you describe is a boot sector error. i would recommend to boot the computer from DVD and wipe the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. If you not the techie type take the computer to a technician.

I have problem when i start my pc a error message appeared rcint failure string table id not found 42 at line 462

This problem usually occur due to soft booting the machine (reset) and then it could not restart. Usually after the xp logo screen u can only got the parser message: string table not found '42' at line 462. (which is a registery sincronization error (r,sint)). Click the ok button many times and your machine will boot up. Then go to control panel, user accounts, create new account. soft boot your machine again log onto new account and delete all files found in file search with stylexp and tgtsoft in them. Tthen log off and restart and log on as usual user (p.s. administrater privalidges required on both) and delete the new logon account. Hope this will fix the problem, otherwise you have to format your hard disc and reinstall your OS.
