Question about Samsung HCN653W 65" Rear Projection Television

HCN653W Yellow tint and perfect focus.

Ok so I had an opportunity to pick this tv up used from were I work for $150 bucks. I figured what the hell if it has a few problems I can fix em and have a nice huge hdtv for very little cash. So my first problem is the perfect focus freezes at about 3% and won't work, now having done some research I figured out the replacement part is cheap and easy to do yourself, but the biggest single problem is my entire screen has a yellow tint, such as whites equal very light yellow and everything has a washed out yellow tint, what I need to know is will fixing the perfect focus fix this or is this an issue with the crt guns? If it is the guns which on the 3 should I replace or is there some other route I can take?

Thank You

Re: HCN653W Yellow tint and perfect focus.

Yellow tinting is a indication of browning or alge growing in what is known as crt fluid also know as glycol. although this can occur in any of the three tubes blue is your most likely tube. dirty gylcol can be changed. but is a involved repair. you have to remove the tube. remove glycol disassembel tube clean thoughly with denatured alchol. reassemble fill with clean fluid ..replace tube then align and reconverge. as a tech aournd a 2 hour job
the dirty glycol can also cause the perfect focus to fail as the sensors cant "see" through the fluid. this is a very common problem on these units

It has kind of like blurry lines going accross the screen?

my tv also had wavy lines when running thru the cable jack or your standard RCA jacks. i used a S Video cable to hook up my cable and dvd player... with no lines. they are about ten bucks at walmart one of the componets on the signal board.. my dvi also works without any lines. just for the record ihave been fixing tv's in my garage now for about a year all these experts say they cant fix that with this model tv i'll try picking up a parts tv and changing what i think has gone bad inside this tv and let everyone know.. but i have told you a way to get around it and get back to watcing your tv without any of those annoying lines

Mitsubishi tv problem

im assumiong you checked the tint in the menu options. if not go check it. other wise it sounds like you have a weak tube, or you do not know how to adjust the screen brightness. this is how i adjust the brightness (you dont need to touch the focus). turn the red up until your whole screen is tinted red, then do the same with the blue and the green. then go through each one and turn down just a little till your pic darkens a little. good luck

Reverse fisheye!!

you are going to need to replace the convergence board assembly. It is available at Also get the service manual, as you will need to do some touchup convergence and reset the perfect focus setup again If you have the technical ability. If you do, great! If you do not, these service menu alighnments can mess up your set, so take no shortcuts. Good Luck

Out of Focus

if you have no experience repairing TV sets your going to have to have a tech replace the convergence ICs they are soldered into place and will probably need to be readjusted when this is done. if you know how to work on tvs then replacing the STK type ics in a pair is whats needed Good Luck

Convergence drift

Well, problem is that your TV is just too big... ;] Most probably you're looking at a job that includes replacing some STK chip on the convergence board, or the board itself. in parts a chip should be around 5 bucks, and the board over a hundred. Good luck
