Maytag washing machine top load

Hi Mr. Expert,

I have a Performa by Maytag about 9 years old. Lately making loud banging noise and spinning violently towards the end of spin cycle. How do I fix it? Firstly, how do I open the cover or access to the entire mechanism? Please help. Thank you and your help is much appreciated.

Re: Maytag washing machine top load

  1. using a putty knife or slim screw driver ,wedge it between the top of front panel and top panel.See picture  #1 inserting the blade is to push the release tab in so you can lift the top away from the lower panel. There are two of these tabs located one on each side of machine about 4- inches from the cornerc5ab599.jpgPush the tab in and pull up on the top to release the panel.Once you have released the top panel there are 2 screws inside that are holding the front panel to the cabinet, unscrew thos and your fron panel is off.

Maytag performa pav3200 washing mach. very load shrill noise during spin

if you just bought it it probably is the shiping pin. it is a large boldt in the back of the front load machines, smaller pin in the side or rear on toploaders. it keeps the drum from spinning in transit. people forget to pull them all the time. especially if you installed it yourself. If that isnt the problem, try leveling it. Newer machines spin much faster than older ones and one tiny bit off level will make it rattle and shake.

Those 6 springs are pretty tough to get back on there without the special tool
other than that it all goes back pretty easy.

Maytag performa washer during spin cycle tub is making loud banging noise and continues even when clothes are evenly distributed

This sounds like the transmission is going. Better get another washing machine other than a Performa.

The drum shakes violently and is very loud during spin cycle

There are 2 shock absorbers/springs attached to the drum. If one of them breaks it will cause a loud banging noise when you wash heavy loads. This is an easy fix. The part is about $22.00 and it is accessed throught the front bottom panel.

My MAV8600AWW top load washer makes a loud steady squeal whining noise in spin cycle. Load size doesn't affect noise. Machine is 7 years old. Any guess as to problem?

Maytag had problems with the berrings on the transmission . water gets in and the berring goes bad rorring as it spins. Dump it and get a Whirlpool.

My Magtag Performa washer has been shaking in the spin cycle very violently lately. The floor has not changed, so I can't blame an uneven floor. I'm assuming the belt may need to be tighten or replaced. ...

first I would check your drain pump.. you may have something blocking the water flow... this will cause the water not to fully drain and your machine will have a out of balance load...a loose belt will just slip and make noise,,,

there is a panel in the back you can remove to check the drain pump...let me know if this is helpful...

How do you know if your belt is not functioning properly? During the wash and spin cycles the machine makes an outrageous noise. The washing machine is 7 years old, a Maytag Performa, Top Loader, Model #...

  • tilt the machine over and look at the bottom. the belt is there.
  • it will feel loose but that is normal. it is spring tensioned.
  • the noise is probably coming from the water pump, when they are bad they make a loud noise.
  •  turn the pulley around a couple times to see where the noise is coming from.
