Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hi. I have a Sankyo SD-508 airconditioning compressor that runs the refrigeration on my boat. It doesn't hold the refrigerant charge for very long (2mths or so) and I understand the seals may need replacing. Does that sound like a likely diagnosis/solution, and if so, how do I go about doing it? Can anyone point me to a link to a repair manual for it? Thanks!

Hi, yes it is a possible that you may have leaking seals . I have a link for you to check out and it may be of some help with the Sankyo SD-508 compressor.I have repaired Refrigeration systems for a lot of years. What I would do is locate/pinpoint leaks in you're system.I don't know if you charge the system you're self, but if you do there is a 99.9% chance of you locating this leak, and you will know what is leaking. If it has pressure in the system at this time, you can take a soap and water solution, Liquid soap or better yet, you can buy it at Orchard supply Hardware already to go for gas and freon leaks. I have the most high tech tools available to locate leaks, but always go back to useing this soap to find a leak.Spray it on all joints seals, the weak links in a system like where you add the freon at the scrader valve? Soap down all of these places and you will find your leak. You cant assume it is maybe just a seal. You can pressurize with nitrogen gas or freon. Dont forget to check the evaporator.Good Luck and here is a link that may be helpful, www.citroen-sm.org/wiki/index.PhP/Air_Conditioning. Let me know what you find.

It doesn't cool.

Step 1:

Determine if you have power at the outlet, if you have no volt meter use a radio or lamp etc.

Step 2:

If you have power you need to determine if the compressor is running, if it is, is the line entering the compressor cool at all? even after running awhile? assuming the compressor runs, typically it will be not running, or if running, low on refrigerant, if that is the case it will not be worth charging or repairing.

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.

Airconditioning system blowing hot

Find the AC compressor. The pulley on it has an electric clutch that allows the compressor to run when the AC is on and not when it is off. With the engine running you should be able to see if the clutch is turning or not. The pulley turns all the time the engine is running only the clutch behind the pulley starts and stops. Look at the pulley with the AC off. Have someone turn it on and see if the clutch engages to turn the compressor. If it doesn't engage there are a couple thing that could be wrong. First the clutch has burned out and no longer works. The fuse on the AC clutch is blown. Check the fuse. More likely, if the cold air has been getting warmer, the AC system has a refrigerant leak. The system has a low pressure switch that prevents the clutch from engaging when the refrigerant pressure is too low. If the fuse is good then you need to have a qualified AC Technician check the system.

Refrigerator doesn't seem to be getting cold. It was making a noise and now it doesn't seem like the fan or something is not working. everything in the soft freeze draw is thawed

The compressor is running and the fan is running but it is not cooling. The refrigerator runs and stops like normal. Last time we had it checked the repair guy said it was the fan not spinning fast enough...

On the refrigerator and after sometime hold the condenser to see if it is hot, if it doesn't become hot then there is no refrigerant in the system there must be a leakage somewhere or it could be the compressor which is losing compression or doesn't pump well.

I put a can of 134a it seemed to help but still blew hot air sometimes while putting in a second can I noticed the cluch on the compressor engaging and dissenguaging quickley. Is the compressor bad?

1) get a gauge to check on the low side pressure when adding refrigerant to see if it's too low or too high.
2) if in the proper range check again in a few days to see if the pressure is holding and you don't have a leak that requires a teardown & repair.
3) the fact that the compressor (clutch) IS engaging and disengaging suggests that that part of your system is working ok. IF you can get normal refrigerant levels then you can start troubleshooting the fast cycling.
4) and online manual here:

The Aircondition switch does not stay on. On my 1989 BMW 325i.

have the a/c system checked for proper refrigerant charge as this sytem relys on charge sensors. If the charge is low, compressor will not stay engaged and switch will not stay on.
