Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer
I have a Maytag Neptune fav6800aw that I have loved for 5 years. We recently had a lightning strike and now the washer will fill and then you hear 2 clicks..one at the control board and the second at the motor board. The machine tries several more times (clicking) but nothing happens. Then 3 beeps and a Lr code. Thanks, Renee
I’m and owner and my wife likes the machine also…. except for the tangel problem :). Sorry to hear of your issue. This won’t be an easy DIY fix unless you have the following items I indicate in my fail point list. The three fail points that I suspect with a line impulse hit that could cause the Lr error code “Locked Rotor”
1. Failure of the Control Board. Motor control assy w/brkt (series 10) Sears, 25001079 ebay listing. 25001079 Appliance Zone
2. Failure of the Motor Control Board. 25001217 Sears, 25001217 AZ, ebay listing 25001217
3. Motor (but not likely). 25001034 Sears , 25001034 AZ , ebay listing 25001034
Some parts may have substitution part numbers.
If you elect to DIY here is some info you will need.
The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
Did you have outlet surge protection at the washer outlet? If not I highly recommend surge protection on any electrical/electronic device that may be hit by a line surge. I’m out in the country and strikes zippe the trees, lost a well pump, Control Board in the electric range in the past. I Also had grounding issues that I took care three years ago when I relocated my main service entrance. I’m in the 19344 area and have a complete set of know good parts. If you were nearby I would offer to help. If you elect to repair I would have the service company bring at a minimum the first two parts. Call Maytag and find out if the control board is still under warranty. Contact info on the web and in the Service Manual. I got them to send me one.

If the machine is only filling and draining, the motor could be faulty or the capacitor that controls the motor could be blown. The capacitor is situated in the control panel behind the controls. Remove the panel and test the capacitor. If capacitor ok have the motor tested. Also check if the belt is not slipping, worn or broken.
