Question about Canon PowerShot A550 Digital Camera

2 Answers

I can't take a picture with the flash. Everytime I set it to flash mode and I hold down the button and I think it's the ready light that stays light but it doesn't take a picture. I had one of my friends take a look at they said that my flash bulb is probabally out. Is there anything I can do without having to replace the bulb?

My wife's A550 stopped its flash for no good reason. I put two fresh batteries in and there was no improvement. I then gave it a smal tap on our kitchen table - on the opposite side to the flash - and it started working again.

Perhaps it's the 21st century equivalent to kicking the photo copier when it did not work.

Good Luck

I had the same trouble and searched for hours until I found this page -http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11...

Apparently, removing and reinserting the memory card resets some things, and the flash is one of them. I did it, and now I have flash. BTW, tapping the camera is one of the fixes for a lens error. And my printer I've had for 9 years wouldn't feed the paper, I cleaned stuff and made sure there was no paper jam, still didn't work. I lifted it from the table it is on, 6-8 inches and then just let it go - feeds fine, works fine. A few days later I noticed a tiny pawl spring on the output tray, put it in the drawer just in case, but printer working fine - knock wood!

If the bulb is truly out and you don't want to replace it, your only option is to carry a really big light around with you :)

I have Mr Coffee APX33; I do not know how to set the coffeemaker to turn on automatically. I do not have the manual. Hope you can help. Thanks! Larry

First you have to make sure to set the clock for the correct current time:
Press down and hold the SET button. Then alternately press the UP and DOWN buttons (indicated by arrows), until you reach the current time, then release the SET button. (there is a PM indicator on screen but not an AM indicator - if you don't see the PM you are at AM)

To set the time for the brew to start in the future:
Press and release the MODE button once and the Delay Brew Clock picture will start flashing on the screen.
While the Clock picture is flashing - hold down the SET button while you use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to set the desired brew time (you can hold down an arrow button to get there faster). Release the SET button and now that brew time is programmed. (After a few seconds the clock picture will disappear but the future brew time is programmed.)

To activate the delayed brew:
Press and release the MODE button once. The Clock picture will be flashing and the time shown will be the time that you previously set for the future brew). While the Clock picture is flashing - press and release the BREW button. The Clock picture will remain on steady. The BREW light will not come on until the time in the future that you have programmed.

Pretty confusing - but it does work. Just remember that if you see the Clock picture on steady - the machine will come on at the time you have set in.
If you want to use the machine earlier - while the Clock picture is steady - you just press the BREW button and it will brew.
If the Clock picture is steady but you want to cancel the automatic future brew - just press the BREW button twice. (This turns it on and then off and cancels the future brew).

I can send a copy of the manual if you like. Lennyg678@aol

When shutter depressed "AF" and "SB" LED's flash

My camera's shutter will not depress all the way due to a red flash light coming up all the time in the Flash-Ready indicator lamp (refer to pag 28 in the Nikon manual). It can be full sun outside but it will not work due to the red flash light coming on.

A work around is to select a flash mode of 'cancel'.
There is a button toward the front of your camera called the flash mode button. Click that until you see strike mark on the flash icon of your monitor screen (see page 32 in the Nikon manual).

The camera must have a malfunction of determining the lighting so it always thinks you need to have a flash on the picture. Of course this is not 'fixing' the flash/lighting issue but you can take typical day pictures for now with this work around.

There is a "quick" button located on the back of the camera just for flashes. It is the first button to the right of the power button and it looks like a crooked lightning bolt arrow that points down. If you are in any picture taking mode, push this button and it will toggle you through each flash option, auto, red eye (eyeball symbol), flash (same symbol as the button, this mode will make the flash work everytime you take a picture), red eye and flash, and no flash (careful, in this mode you have to allow for the camera to focus, the lens will stay open a long time in a dark atmosphere -- if you don't hold the camera still you will get a blurry picture).

The Flash on my camera won't work

When taking pictures, you must really be allowing time for the camera's flash to be charged
before you could take another picture so that camera will have enough time to rest and it
could function normally.
But if the camera was dropped, then it's really causing those kinds of issues like flash will not work properly.

You could still try these steps below:

First, do the POWER RESET:
- Turn off camera
- Remove batteries for a minute
- Reload batteries
- Turn on camera

Second, do the MASTER RESET
- Be in AUTO mode
- Press on MENU button
- Press on the right button until you see SETUP 2
- Scroll down until you see RESET
- Press the right button to pick up on YES or NO
- Press on OK/MENU button for changes to be saved
- Turn off camera for a few seconds so that settings will be refreshed

Turn it on and take a picture.
When you want to have just the AUTO FLASH.

- Rotate the mode dial to PROGRAM
- Press the LEFT/FLASH button until you've seen the
LIGHTNING icon with the Letter A on the leftmost part of the screen
- Try to take a picture by pressing and holding the shutter button
halfway first for 3-5 seconds and then press it all the way down

Picture too light

The cause and solution may include one of the following: The flash is not needed. Change to Flash Off or decrease the flash compensation in any of the PASMC modes (certain cameras only). The subject was too close for flash. Move so that the distance between you and the subject is within the effective flash range. There is too much light. Decrease the exposure compensation. If you use flash, adjust the flash compensation in any of the PASMC modes (certain cameras only). Auto-exposure was not set. Press the shutter button halfway and hold. When the AF/AE indicator turns green, press the shutter button completely down to take the picture (most cameras).
