Hi, From what I'm reading of your problem, it now seems that you are using the Motorola set top box now as your tuner, so no longer are the channels tuned by or switched by the use of the remote..thats because that TV's tuner isn;t the one you now need to switch. So you cant use that remote for the telly to change the channels of your set top box, you need its controller, the tv one is for turn on and off the display now and setting it to whatever the source/mode you have the set top box going into and volume unless it is running via a sound system.

DVD - The DVD tuner (analog?)is also of the old pre-box setup, and from the sounds of this you got the Box because the analog signal was phased out in your country, so that means the DVD's tuner will not operate either, unless it is digital, but I guess you could set it up at least so it would record what you are watching threw the box(Digital?) but what the use of that...

You can watch, only as many tuners you have, and It seems as if you may only have one and it is switched by the motorola box's remote, and the dvd wont record because it needs a signal, but if the dvd is digital, we need to hook it up to the same signal cable the set top box gets, have it's leads plug into an available input on the back of the tv like AV2 or something, switch the tv to that input source or mode, power up the dvd, and press play to test connection, then we need to tune it in to the tv signal but if you cant tune the DVD unit to any stations then either its an anolog unit and that signal is now gone(to make room for RFID) or you ain't got it plugged into the outside signal/arial/cable socket...

Guess your in the US where analog is now gone, we in australia will follow shortly..cheers

I just purchased a Sherwood RD 6513 reciever, I'm trying to connect a hd cable box (motorola dch 3200), dvd player (sony dvp ns710h) and a rca hd tv (l32hd41). I connected hdmi cords from both components...

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist you. I f you are going to hook up your cable box - motorola to the sherwood receiver, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the motorola cable box, there is only 1 hdmi output there, then connect the other end to the sherwood receiver on the hdmi input, then connect another hdmi cable to the hdmi output and the other end goes to your rca hd tv.

for the sony dvp, you have only one hdmi out, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the sony dvp if u have another spare. connect it to the hdmi input of the sherwood receiver. there is only 1 hdmi output at the sherwood, so u need to use a component cable to be connected at the back of the sherwood receiver component output then the other end goes to the component input of the hd tv.

if you dont have anymore hdmi cable to hook up your sony dvp, u can use component cable, the connection will goes like this, connect a component cable on the output of the sony dvp and the other end goes to the sherwood component input then connect another component cable to the component output of the sherwood and the other end goes to the rca hd tv on the component input.

I hope this will solve your concern, if you have any question, u can get in touch..

Connecting HD cable box to DVR too HDTV

When I hooked up my HD cable box using an HDMI cable, I had to go into the cable screen menus and select HDMI output. You may have to do something similar when using an S-video cable. Your DVD recorder doesn't seem to have an HDMI input, so you'll have to use the S-video or (worst case) composite video (red, white, yellow cords). Your cable box may also be scrambling the signal so that you can't record. That may be why you can record by bypassing the cable box.

Loss of sound when I go to HD mode of tv.

Unplug the Moto box and plug back in after 1 min, as far as the codes, which remote cable/ tv? Cable remotes vary so much you will probably have to call your provider to have them walk you through programming.
