Model # MFF2557HES Top refrigator section stoped cooling freezer is working

You may have Ice buildup in the freezer. You freezer has a fan in the bak that sends the cool air to the fridge. Your fridge dial determines how muh cold air comes from the freezer. Try defrosting the freezer. You may have to pull the back panel off of the inside of the freezer to get the ice thawed. The ice build up is likely causing the air to not get to the fridge. Hope it works.

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

The freezer is working good, but the refrigerator does not cool. there was frost built up in the back of the freezer, Defrosted it, but it did not help. ,

What you probably didn't notice was that the freezer has not been going through it's normal defrost cycle. Because of this un-noticed event going on, there has been frost building up on the evaporator coils that doesn't belong there. After this frost continues to build up over the course of a few days to a week or so, now you are going to start to notice the effects.

Here is what's happening when you have a malfunction in the defrost system.
  • Air cannot circulate from the freezer(where the cold happens basically) to the fresh food section.
  • Your refrigerator will run constantly to try to cool the fresh food section. This will develop a new set of problems with your refrigerator. More on that later....
  • Excess frost builds up within the coils inside the freezer. This is what is blocking the air flow to the fresh food section
  • Usually you will notice the icemaker will stop making ice. Poor air flow and not quite cold enough temperatures in the freezer cause this
  • Water will not come through the dispenser on the door. Cold air settles, the water resovoir will freeze.
  • Compressor may overheat and shut off. This is when you hear, click, click, click. Not good
  • Ice Cream in the Freezer will start to get soft. That's really not that bad. lol
What can you do about this. Let me explain the defrost system in general so you get an understanding of what is going on.
The coils inside the freezer are the only part inside the whole refrigerator that "get cold". They need to stay free from excess frost build up so that air can pass through the coils and reach the refrigerator section of your refrigerator. Every eight hours or so, depending on the type of defrost timer or control you have, the compressor and fans will shut off and the machine will go into defrost mode. When the refrigerator is in defrost there is a heater that is tied into the evaporator coils inside the freezer that comes on. This heater is behind the rear panel inside the freezer where the evaporator coils are located. It melts the frost that has accumulated over the course of time. After about thirty minutes the machine comes out of defrost and goes back to normal operation.
Now the air can continue to pass through the coils and keep the freezer frozen and the refrigerator cool and everybody is happy. Therefore you should do continuity test on the tstat the heater and check the fan as well the last thing that you would check would be the defrost timer all three of the first parts can be found behind the back panel in the freezer If you have any further questions please remember when this chat is concluded to rank how this opinion has helped Thanks again Rick p.s we love 4 thumbs for answering free chats lol also if there is ice built up in the back of your freezer defrost it with a hair dryer Thanks again Rick

Refrigerator side doesn't feel cool but the freezer side is cold for a Maytag refrigerator model # MZD2766GE

Is there ice build-up in the back of the freezer? If so take the panel off the back of the freezer section inside the freezer and replace the heating element.

1 Answer

Refrigerator side doesn't keep things cold, just cool, despite having it on the coldest setting and the cold vent open between the freezer. The freezer is working fine.

Look on the back wall of the freezer for a ice buildup. If there is ice you have a defrost problem. The defrost timer is in the fresh food section inside the control panel. The defrost heater and defrost thermostat are behind the freezer back panel inside the freezer.
Also check the freezer fan. If there is no ice buildup in the freezer the freezer fan motor could be bad.

Whirlpool Refrigerator fresh food section cool but not cold (freezer ok).

The most likely problem is in the defrost system. Behind the freezer panel there is not only an evaporator fan, but also the evaporator itself, and a defrost heater, termination bi-metal, and drain pan (or trough). You will likely find ice build-up in the evap coil. This could be caused by the defrost timer, the heater, or the termination bi-metal.
Have a service tech look at the unit.

All cold air in you fridge side come from the freezer, therefore if you have ice build up behind back wall in freezer it is blocking air flow....

Refrigerator not cold.

if the freezer section is still working ok then check for ice build up inside freezer on the back wall, its possible that the unit is not defrosting and ice is building up on the cooling coils, the most common culprit is the def thermostat. easiest way for you to get it going again fast is to manually def the coil.

remove the 2 screws about half way down the back freezer wall. then using a blow dryer def the ice from the coil.

since this refrig has an electronic def control i would recomend calling a reputable service company to check it further for you..
