Question about Acer Aspire 5610-4648 Notebook

1 Answer

Display Hi The display of my laptop is all "Pink. The desktop background is all hazy and the picture seems more like a crayon painting than the excellent photograph that it once displayed." I tried re-installing/updating drivers for Display Adapters but does not seem to work. Is this a problem with the Hardware? How do I check and fix the problem? Cheer....Atul

Re: Display

This sounds like a problem in the connection of the screen to the main board inside your laptop. There will be one or more cables that run from your screen, down through the hinge into the base of the laptop. Sometimes, these can come loose through time and give only a partial picture or strange colors. The only way to find out is to open the computer up and make sure these cables are plugged in. If you cannot do this yourself, take it to a computer repair shop. The other possibility is that the screen has suffered some type of trauma and will need replacing.

How do i change my pictures to fit my laptop screen

Please give more details on what you are trying to do.

If you want to take a picture and make it the total size of your screen as the background of your screen, then just right click on the picture and select Set as Desktop Background. If the size is not what you want then go into the display properties and select the Desktop tab and change the Position to be Stretch. Stretch will fill the whole screen with the picture. Tile will fill the whole screen with multiple little pictures. Center will put the picture in the middle of the screen.

To get to the display properties click Start/Control Panel and look for Display or Appearance and Personalization.

You can also get the display properties by Right Click on an open area of the desktop and select Properties.

I need help changing my background on my Gateway LT20 Series

Hi there and welcome to Fixya!

I'm guessing you're referring to the Windows desktop background. But if not, please provide additional information.

The Windows desktop background is the image on the desktop that appears behind the shortcuts. To change the background, please follow the steps below:

1. Open the "Display Properties" screen by placing the mouse cursor over a blank area of the desktop. Click the right mouse button to access the context menu and choose "Properties". You can also access the "Display Properties" screen by clicking on Start, select Control Panel, and then Appearances and Themes. Open the "Display" shortcut.

2. Select the "Desktop" tab from the "Display Properties" screen.

3. Pick a picture from the Background list by clicking on it and click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position. Personal pictures in the "My Pictures" folder are listed by name in the Background list.

4. Choose a background picture in another location by clicking on the "Browse" button. You can use any files with the following extensions: .bmp, .dib, .gif, .htm or .jpg. Click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position.

How do i set a photo as desktop background? cannot find desktop properties...

  1. You can right click on the picture itself and select "set as Desktop background"

  2. Or:

  3. Click on the Start menu button. Then click on Settings and then on Control Panel.

  4. Double-click on the Display icon or text link. This will open a window named Display Properties.

  5. Click on Background if that tab is not selected. Click on one of the items that appear in the box labeled Wallpaper.

  6. Inspect the preview that appears above the Wallpaper menubox. Use the Display menu to the right to experiment with tiling, stretching or centering the picture that you are previewing.

  7. Click on Browse to use an image stored elsewhere on your hard drive. Locate the image and click Open.

  8. Click OK to change your background, or wallpaper. Click Cancel if you decide to maintain your current settings.

Display has gone bad with fine vertical pink lines

Connect an external monitor to your laptop, if you get a clear image on this monitor the the video card in the laptop is OK.

The fault could be a defective inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or a faulty CCFL lamp. Most likely a faulty CCFL lamp.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) as reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Another option is to view the picture you want using the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" then right-click on the image and click on "Set as Desktop Background". This should help you have a new background.

Don't forget to rate... Post back if this doesn't work...

Hi Adrien, the easiest way to set a picture as a Windows background is to open the picture in your web browser and right click on it. A menu box should appear, about half way down you should see an option labeled *Set as Background*. Left click on that option and Windows will automatically use that picture as you background image and tile it to fill your entire desktop. Alternatively if you have Windows XP and use the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer program to display the picture the process is the same except when you right click on the picture the selection will be *Set as Desktop Background*. When you select that option it will do the same thing. If you don?t like the tiled effect right click on the desktop and select properties from the popup menu. In the display properties box that appears click on the Desktop tab, and in the lower right hand corner you will see a field labeled *Position*. Left click on the pull down arrow and select center or stretch, depending on what effect you want. Let us know if you need any other help and don?t forget to rate the posting.
