Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a 62" Mitsubishi LCD TV. I have replaced the bulb after the "Lamp" light illuminated. It will work for a couple days then stop working. I will reset it and re seat the bulb then it will work. It now has stopped working and when I attempt to turn it on after reseting and reseating I hear a buzz clicking sound come from the bulb area.

It is not a flat screen. It is a rear projection. Is the ballast board easily replaceable?

Hi.

If this is a rear projection LCD you may have a fault on the board that supplies power to the lamp.
This is sometimes called ballast board.

If this is a flat panel LCD TV, then there is no bulb.
If you have backlight problems in this case, the inverter may be faulty.

Here you can find replacement parts for most models.

I would suggest it is a ballast problem. You can check supply of 5 volts to ballast's small 5 pin connector (trigger voltage) and about 300V-330V to large 2pin connector. If both voltages present at the start and lamp is working with in another TV - it is bad ballast.

Have you had the bulb replaced in the unit yet? There is a timer in the unit that is set to a specific number of hours. If that is not reset when the lamp is changed you may still have this problem. The issue could also be unrelated to the lamp but in the power supply itself. I think you would be best advised to contact a repair shop about the unit.

Lamp is not the issue. It most likely is a your DM card. You most likely have some capacitors that need to be replaced. This is a terrible issue with this unit. Do a google search for "DM" and the model number and you should see hundreds of posts.

I had the same issue when replacing my lamp for the first time. I replace just the bulb with the Phillips replacement bulb. After installing the power down issue started and it would take up to 7 attempts before the TV would stay on with a picture.

Since I never had this problem until i replaced the bulb i decided to send the new bulb back and replace it with a difference one. In my opinion replacement parts are never made to the same standard as original OEM parts. This TV is definitely very temperamental in regard to the bulbs.

When the second replacement bulb arrived I decided to not only replace the bulb I also cleaned the connector plug in the cartridge with a QTip and alcohol. I did the same for the plug receptor in the TV.

When I replaced the bulb i insured the the top of bulb lettering was facing the handle of the cartridge so when you put the cartridge back in the TV the top of the bulb would be facing you.

I also cleaned the entire inside of the TV where the cartridge is inserted including the screws.

Once I did all this the TV turned on the first time and has been working fine for three days now.

I do believe the replacement bulb position is very important as to how it heats up and determines when it needs to cool.

I hope this helps others with the same success i had because I really do not want to replace this TV and start replacing all the parts others have done with little to no success for this issue.
